LG says this method utilizes 64% more of the motherglass when producing laptop-sized panels, leading to less wastage, which will make displays cheaper. The company has already internally produced an OLED panel that used an entire 8.5-Gen motherglass through FLiPP, which measures at 2,200mm x 2,500mm.


LG is currently looking to apply FLiPP to its RGB OLED technology, which means self-emissive red, green, and blue subpixels will be deposited directly onto a motherglass. Otherwise, in Samsung's QD-OLED and LG's WOLED, white (or blue) LEDs pass through color filters to produce red, green, and blue, instead. Therefore, the combination of RGB OLED and FLiPP could lead to panels with exceptional color volume and gamut coverage — traditionally weaknesses of OLED.”

In short: LG could offer OLED TVs (and monitors, and phone screens) that are much brighter, more color-accurate, and more affordable than they are now. OLED is already heavily commoditized, but FLiPP could make it just about as accessible as LCDs.

Glass is only about 5% of the cost of an OLED. They said they can utilize 64% more of the motherglass with this process, so we're only looking at about a 3% cost reduction if everything else is equal.

But the Motherglass having issues is why larger OLED displays are so expensive. The failure rate is atrocious. And the chemicals used to process them are the most expensive part so each is a risky indevor.

If the process lets them use more of the glass with hopefully a lower failure rate then the costs associated with each goes down substantially.

I think that's more of a screen size problem. 27" monitor... or ultra wide with similar height as 27" monitor you're looking at 1440 range, bump up to 32" and there is almost no chance you're not getting 4k resolution

Whatever it is, I probably have no need for it because I can't afford to upgrade my GPU card or RAM right now, and well into the future.
 
Dell actually makes remarkably good displays.
They put in the extra effort into the little things.

Use them almost exclusively at work for everyone.
i’ve got the 32 inch qd-oled from dell alienware with a respectable-tolerant curve @4K 240Hz

best display i’ve ever owned
 
I prefer curved super ultrawide instead of flat, but a good monitor is a must.
I do my best to explain that “cheaper” monitors with “the same” specs as others often cost more in other issues. Getting rid of the budget Benq’s and BestBuy clearance models has cut back on so many WCB claims, and down time from eye strain, or other issues. The productivity difference is measurable, and worth the extra $$$, especially given the lifespan of the displays.

That and good keyboards and mice, accounting complained, but secretarial loved it, and even accounting came to realize the difference it made even for them. Ergonomic issues pile up and compound fast, ounce of prevention and all that.

I’ve been eyeballing this for a hot minute.
I was looking at the 4K from last year (AW3225QF), but I’m not sure I could adequately push frames to that display.

1440 is the happy spot for me, good resolution, but doesn’t need a second mortgage to feed.

Just run dlss just about anything can run 4k now if you don't push the rt/pt

Bankie already said this, but why not say again. 34 inch is only beyond 32" in the horizontal direction, which gets you 3440 resolution i believe. Vertically its the same size as a 27" monitor and that's the direction of the 1440 pixel resolution.

So that 34" monitor was just a 27" monitor where the glass was cut a bit longer. Now they do make 4k 27" monitor but IMO that's overkill and a lot of them aren't far off in price from 32" monitors so why not just go bigger

The 'problem' with 4k ultrawides is that they have 33% more pixels to push than a standard 4k monitor. And then a standard 4k monitor has 33% more pixels than a '2k' (1440p) ultrawide. So with a 4k UW you're looking at over half the performance drop of a '2k' (1440p) UW. DLSS/FSR helps but doesn't negate that sort of deficit.

Our IT department reports to finance and the head of IT is not going to challenge them so we get all the cheap shit. I bought my own mouse so I wouldn't have to put up with the junk they provided. I have Samsung monitors, but they're definitely not top of the line by any stretch. Had to fight to get one replaced because it kept blinking on and off. Took ages.
