Woot: MSI Codex R2 - $1,399

It's ok. Could probably build something better for 1/3 (off) the price. Might be a good price compared to what things will cost in 3+ months.

still rather build a more balanced computer. AM5 and strong CPU with DDR5 and a cheaper card like a B580
 
Seems like a solid deal to me for those specs. The only realistic thing I would prefer to see is an AM5 platform for better upgradability. But I'm sure it's cheaper because there's less demand for Intel in gaming.
 
Still show $1399 for me. I just checked, the 5070s go for $800 or more. RAM is not going to be cheaper than $400. This is about as good of a deal as you're going to get.

I've see a couple lower to mid range MSI builds in Costco that didn't have heatsinks on the VRMs. I'm not sure what motherboards those would be, but they might not be very good ones.

For sure, but it might mean not being able to upgrade to a higher end CPU in the future, without also buying a motherboard.

I'm a huge fan of MSI products, and I was surprised to see that. It's a strange place to save on materials/costs. They could at least put a basic heatsink on there.

All the Asus and Alienware builds in a similar price point had at least something on the VRMs, if a bit small. I was shopping for something in this price range for my nephew, and that missing heatsink was the deal breaker.
