Recently upgraded my AM4 system with the anniversary 5800X3D, and was interested to see how the Carbide pad would perform.

It's been in situ for a few weeks now, and my rig has been through perhaps a hundred or so high temp cycles. Just ran Cinebench R23 for 10 minutes on multi core and the CPU temp peaked at 81.3 C.

The cooler is a Noctua NH D15. Interestingly the previous CPU (5700X) would hit 92C on this test with the exact same set up and Noctua paste.

The idea that this pad will last for years, and (if their claims are to be believed) will over time become increasingly more efficient at transferring heat to the cooler, is extremely appealing.

So - No mess, no gradual drying out, no risk, longer lifespan than the parts it's cooling and it works... Does this mean the end for thermal paste?
 
i got one with mine too but havent tried it yet, i used mx-7. i get 82c with a 240 aio. ambient is currently 26c though...

I've always used paste and never had a problem.
The CPU I took out had paste that was nearly 4 years old, and while it was showing slight signs of drying out there'd been no noticeable impact on temps or performance at all. I bought some new paste with the intention of using it, but thought I'd give the pad a go out of curiosity mainly. Will leave it on unless there are any issues.
 
supposedly they improve over 1k cycles, as the toobs align or whatever. be interested to see if that happens or not.
 
I got the same 5800x3d and Carbide ice nanotube pad, I will try it and run some test as well. The cpu she has now is the 5700x 65w so it runs pretty cool as it is but will benchmark both. Thanks for the info I have used paste since 1994 and never used one of the sheet things, so we shall see.
 
Well I had to use paste because ole fumble fingers dropped it and got dirt/dust on it. so it went in the trash. I did some testing with her DeepCool AK620 and I was hitting 85c top temp on CB23 after 10 minutes, which is horrible so I ordered a bigget cooler ID-COOLING FROZN A720 and I will retest when it comes in. I love my D15 on my rig but I am not paying 170.00 for another.
 
The Carbide pad sounds really interesting and interested in a long term review of it. My PC builds never have a CPU upgrade so a one time thermal solution seems ideal.

I tried Innovation graphite pad in 2018 but it slid around (this was before people recommended paste or silicon oil) and it was fragile af so I don't think I got a good contact between the CPU and cooler and ended up using paste.
 
Noctua will be selling these pads under their branding, sometime around September.

I'm curious if Thermal Grizzly will update Kryosheet, in response.
 
not for linux, dont use it. could use a live windows boot usb with portable cinebench on it...
 
I just made the switch to Linux, and so cine-bench is now off the table.

Open to any suggestions re an alternative tool to monitor the pads effectiveness over time.
OCCT

Their stress tests are all excellent. And it also monitors all of your temps sensors, fan RPM, SSD temps, VRM temps, etc. So you don't have to have another app open.
And it will tell you if your CPU or RAM settings are producing errors.
