Recently upgraded my AM4 system with the anniversary 5800X3D, and was interested to see how the Carbide pad would perform.
It's been in situ for a few weeks now, and my rig has been through perhaps a hundred or so high temp cycles. Just ran Cinebench R23 for 10 minutes on multi core and the CPU temp peaked at 81.3 C.
The cooler is a Noctua NH D15. Interestingly the previous CPU (5700X) would hit 92C on this test with the exact same set up and Noctua paste.
The idea that this pad will last for years, and (if their claims are to be believed) will over time become increasingly more efficient at transferring heat to the cooler, is extremely appealing.
So - No mess, no gradual drying out, no risk, longer lifespan than the parts it's cooling and it works... Does this mean the end for thermal paste?
