AMD 5800X3D $600...SOLD!

Why would anyone pay so much for a 5800x3d lol. Especially since DDR4 prices are going up also. Wonder if I can get $600 for my 5950x!

I've said that before, I have no idea why someone would pay $600 for an unopened 5800x3d, it's obviously possible. Maybe they're reviving the production of am4 3D cpu-s. Regular 5800Xs are still being produced all the time.

Not for the 5950X.. it isn't much better than my 5900X.
I'm thinking about taking a super highly PBO CO tuned 5950x with my 4090 and comparing it against a 5800x3d in star wars with the AT AT scene and see how much worse it is....

It seems so often all those comparisons are on stock 5950x or something.

The past few days i've been trying to hone in on the 5950x CO....but it is that one that acts a lil screwy. I have another, but I don't want to swap the fan and stuff. Of course with all the screwy fooling around i could have swapped it already. Apparently I like pain....or a challenge.

I play at 4K, my 5900X was fine.. but I wanted a new toy. Like fuck I am paying thousands for a GPU lol.. it was cheaper to build a new computer..

Did you build a new one?

I suffer from too many crazy ideas and not enough time to see them through.

You can't reach it with any OC X3D cpus. X3D are made specifically for gaming, they have higher MIN fps, avg and max, and that 0.1% fps. 5950x, 5900xt can't reach it with any overclock. But that doesn't mean that 5950x, 5900xt are bad cpus. It's not worth bothering too much with overclocking those cpus because you won't get much out of them.

Hmm, saw a tpu thread where people were only getting 3200mhz out of ddr5 with them :(. https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/...-instead-of-full-size-dimm-ddr5.343651/page-3

Might not be such a good option after all.
I just tried it today. Remember, people aren't tech savvy like us old folks. Mine booted up at 5200MHz, but I tested different speeds and was able to get them to boot up and benchmark stable at 5000MHz for 5600MHz RAM. Timings scaled appropriately.

Update:
Other motherboards weren't aren't as good, but they all worked. Either at 4600MHz, 4400MHz, or 4200MHz, but some with really good timings. Still faster than the fastest DDR4 RAM.

yup top of the line cpu of a platform (5950x-5800x3d) would tend to keep good value, Intel historically did has well, because of the way less trouble upgrade path they offer.

Which, in general, means that buying a fancy motherboard for future proofing as 'I will upgrade to the top CPU of that generation later once it's cheap' rarely actually happens.

a new board and ram are needed too. i grabbed one for $475CAN/$335US, a 9800x3d setup wouldve been $1200/850+.

And makes me wonder how much the 5800X3D would be if not for the rampocalypse? Thankfully, I'm not in the market for a new build but if I was the 5800X3D AM4 setup would probably be the route to go.
