Personally don't care if people pirate but it's irks me when people try to justify it. Just be honest about it lol.
All I've said is vote with your wallets. I'm justifying not paying for predatory monetization and underhanded tactics.

If you think not buying something automatically means pirating it, that might be your projection.

There is one instance where piracy is 100% justifiable: when a company revokes a perpetual license, or otherwise changes the deal after the purchase, like hiding a previously included feature behind a paywall.

Then stand behind your principles and do not play it peroid. Don't use it as a excuse to pirate it. I am not proj3cting anything I pirated many games in the past. I still get my TV shows, movies and even some games from the high seas.

In my mind what? Are you suggesting that I must buy things regardless of the price or whether I think they are a good deal?
Not sure what point you're making here. Stop stealing?

You literally said your purchases make it possible for games people aren't buying to exist.
Yes, this is a fact, not main character syndrome. If everyone sailed the seven seas, there'd be nothing for you to pirate. Crazy stuff, I know.

And to add to that, maybe games that people aren't buying shouldn't exist, didn't you think of that?
A game not selling because it sucks is part of the game. This isn't some "gotcha" moment.

It's a simple analogy. Tell me what's confusing you about it and I'll help you understand it.
This isn't a complicated topic.

Not buying = Stealing? Is that your base premise? No wonder everything you derive from that is wrong.
No, stealing = stealing. We are all taught this as children.

Pirate all you want. I'm not your mom. It's the justification of it that's silly. And yes, I'm aware you're not the one that started the pirating talk. I believe it was cvinh ... but you're still defending it.

In general the enforcing the one price fit all, would it be theater ticket price being the same for the 300 millions movie than the $30 millions one, music albums-song or for games. (having to go on run about ways about 3D screening that were popular for a while or special seat/dolby sound/etc... instead of just charging more for higher demand-costlier spectacle...) a bit the same trick here.

GTA 6 is a complete different animal in term of scope, experience (size-time of play, etc....) let the market decide a price that reflect that, GTA 6 for $150 would be a great value deal vs Doom Dark Age premium edition at $80 (or regular edition outside the US price at launch), more pricing elasticity in game price would make it simpler and less tricks about day 1 DLC to do it, but there is a strange giant resistance to it.

Honestly I will probably pay the full price for it. I got a ton of hours in each previous release.

I am on the fence about buying it with all the bs they pulling with it. I proabaly end up buying it on release tho.

If the game is any good I’ll pick up a ps5 version to play on my ps5 pro. But I’ll wait for the disc edition supposedly coming out in December. I’m not buying a code in a box, and enough people will have full played it by then to know if the gameplay/writing is any good.

I still remember paying $70-80 for games in the 90's when I was a hell of a lot poorer and the games were a hell of a lot less complex. I've been expecting this for years and am surprised it didn't happen earlier. Do I love it? No. Can I live with it? Sure.
That said, I'm still not giving them anything if the PS5 version is only 30fps. It's 2026.

70-80 back when they had to do everything manually and from scratch was one thing....

if it's a game I really want to play I'll pay the higher price...it's not like it's a regular thing...a one time exception is fine...if Dark Souls 4 was being released at $80 I would pay it because I love the developer and I know I will get hundreds or most likely thousands of hours of gameplay out of it...just buy less games to make up for it in the future

There is a number I'm will to pay for $80 isnt it though. I'm not a fan of multiplayer so thats a part of game play that doesnt factor into "hours of enjoyment" arguments buy YMMV so you do you.

Picked gta5 on Steam when there was a 40% sale on it, and felt that was the right price, but the PC version was pushed so far back from original release that waiting a bit longer wasnt a problem, and I feel the same will hold true here too.

All I said is don't buy it. Who talks about stealing? Only you, I wonder why.
Yes, this is a fact, not main character syndrome. If everyone sailed the seven seas, there'd be nothing for you to pirate. Crazy stuff, I know.
I have no intention to pirate this game or any other, never said anything to suggest that. I probably buy more premium games than you, but I don't make a fuss about it. I see a game that interests me I buy it. If I see a company being greedy I don't buy it.
A game not selling because it sucks is part of the game. This isn't some "gotcha" moment.
What if I told you that no game has ever failed because of piracy? It's true, if a game is desired and has good word of mouth it will sell well, if it's bad it will not sell well. Piracy is always proportional to sales.
This isn't a complicated topic.
Apparently it is for you, because you can't seem to get your ducks in a row. Let's start with the basics:
  • Not buying = The decision to not buy a product or a service by a potential customer
  • Piracy = The act of copying a copyrighted work without obtaining a license for it
  • Stealing = The taking of physical items without permission
These terms are not interchangeable, yet you act as if they all meant the same thing.
No, stealing = stealing. We are all taught this as children.
No, we were taught that stealing is bad. Good thing nobody advocates for stealing.
Pirate all you want. I'm not your mom. It's the justification of it that's silly. And yes, I'm aware you're not the one that started the pirating talk. I believe it was cvinh ... but you're still defending it.
I only talk for myself, and when I say piracy doesn't cause games to fail I'm not defending or justifying piracy, I'm defending factual reality.

If the game is half as entertaining as this thread I'll gladly pay 100 bucks!!

Some Retailers Are Refusing to Sell GTA 6 Due to the Lack of a Disc

Physical problems for a digital age.

"Video Games Plus, a gaming retailer based out of Canada, and an independent gaming retailer known as Loot Box Gaming have both stated that they won't be selling GTA 6.
“For nearly 40 years, VGP has been committed to supporting physical media and preserving the value of physical game ownership,” reads a statement from VGP. “As part of that commitment, our company policy is that we do not carry physical products for video game consoles that contain only a digital download code. Based on the information currently available, the physical release of Grand Theft Auto 6 for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X is expected to be a code-in-box product. As a result, VGP will not be offering it for sale under our current company policy.”"

There won't be a physical version of the game.

I'll wait. As always, I'm not going to pay a premium $80 or $100 to playtest a new game. GTA V was riddled with bugs, but at least I got it gifted to me. I'll pay $14.99 a few years later like I did with RDR2 when most of all the bugs have been resolved.

i'd usually wait for most games and definitely not pay 80$, but for this one I'll just use some CC points to get an Xbox Gift card and get it free day 1.

What I don't get... if it's simply a download code, why are you even going to a store to buy it? Are there really that many people that must have the box/case for it even if it's empty?

Some console gamers still care about discs. I understand having the case for collection purposes, but some people like discs. Again I understand wanting to own it forever but when online support, the mandatory updates, or the console breaks, the disc is useless. May as well download a pirated copy as that will work forever when it comes to game preservation and that would be legal in most places as long as you own the game.

i get wanting a physical copy of the disc, that wasnt the argument I was making. There is no physical disc, so youre wasting gas money driving to a store, just to have a case? So "oh no, this store isnt going to sell the game, what a colosal pointless gesture as those lost sales will just order online"

For gifting the game, a box under the tree is a bit more fun than a code without any nice presentation.

The number of people that like there library of physical media could be significant has well in the console space, but it could be mostly a way to get buyer that are not fully aware and see it while browsing a physical store if those still exist.

I like a physical copy, but also like to just pick a game from the digital library and play. For me it depends which version goes on sale for the most.

people will probably sell the cover on Ebay...sort of like that new AP/Swatch that went on sale last month...people waiting on lines overnight and then reselling it hoping for a nice profit
