Who else likes likes a clean, minimalist PC build?

RGB has taken hobbyist world by storm and as a 30s something, I still prefer just the clean sleek look of a dark black box on my desk. No lights except the blinking LEDs on the front of my case. Honestly it makes hunting for parts easier that's for sure. I saw someone on reddit looking for a white GPU. Finding something that unique sounds stressful. Give me a reference card in my case and I'm good. On the other hand, finding keyboards that aren't blinding rainbows is a pain. Anybody else feel this way?

I've never been into the 'aesthetics' of PC building either - whether it was cathode tubes, neon cooling liquid, clear case panels or RGB lighting now etc. I don't even care to look at the machine, it's just a machine, the screen is what I look at! Case has always sat on the floor at the end of my L desk out of sight.

Plus side of this is because I don't care about looking at it or looks of it - I can get away with the most basic of cable management too, as long as it's out of the way it doesn't need to be pretty 😁

For sure - I'm much more of a fan of a minimalist case these days. I'm even finding a 'windowed' case a bit bothersome and would prefer a closed case (or even better, mesh).

Cable management? That's different, and it'd bother me very much if I knew there was a nest sitting in my PC case.

I do love good cable management. its just so damn satisfying. But Im also really bad at doing it well, so its nice to hide behind a closed case ha

Eh I don't leave rats nests (behind the mobo/back panel maybe guilty) - it's functionally out of the way to provide/not impede airflow - just not pretty - like these 2 examples 'functional' vs 'neat and pretty'

I did build a black out build. Then when things were getting bad (price). I got a prebuilt RGB (fans, aio, card), and I changed the color to purple to match the color of the LED under glow of my desk. (I am over 50).
My desk LED is practical, (hear me out). I have a power strip that turns on all the things plugged into it when my PC is on. I plugged in the lights into the powerstrip. SO when Windows decides to turn on my PC in the middle of the night to update windows instead of my PC running all day, I notice the lights on and I am able to put it back to sleep.
The front side is super clean allowing for the best airflow to minimize dust collection. The back not so much.

I do appreciate any effort builds, led or not. I watch Jay and Kyle build PCs. As for the photo above the the zip ties are obviously there to trigger.

I don't like RGB in my PC but my entire computer room (and house) has the color changing Hue lights to sync the colors when playing games or watching movies when I want lol 😁

I don't mind either. You can turn off all RGB with SignalRGB, just start SignalRGB, then close it. I also don't go overboard on zip ties. I tend to replace or upgrade parts somewhat often since I don't get the best components at the start of a new build, but wait for deals. Just seems wasteful to replace 30 zipties just so it can look good for a single photo-op. Below is what my typical cable management looks like.

lots of us. i have my case rgb set to red and only the side strip lights up. inside is totally dark.
function over form...

I enjoy both. My main rig is lit up completely blue enough to see the components and loop. My backup rig is blacked out with green fluid behind a darkened window. No lights other than the water temp display on the reservoir. Cable management is no longer a priority. As long as the door closes and the cables aren't poking out, I'm good. It takes so long to configure and build my loops by the time I've finished them I'm burnt.

One of mine is pretty minimalist,
Yeong Yang YY-0221 cube case
You'd probably think it was a mini-fridge at first glance

And I am fond of cube cases, like my old SGI,

I've seen people rush at any opportunity on this forum to echo this sentiment a million times. Yes. I just think turning them off would be easier than complaining about it but it seems I am mistaken.

I dont see much complaining in this thread, but its definitely alright to like the RGB! My friends all of RGB and I they look pretty damn cool, but I would never be jealous of that set up.

My current PC was the first one I tried to build with some aesthetics in mind. I like all white LEDs and went with a black and white theme for the PC and peripherals. Very happy with it.

EDIT: Glass could use a Windex treatment.
