The coupon issued is 15% for new customers only, otherwise it costs $59.95. Still a hot deal considering it comes with a case, two chargers, one year of service with 4.5gb monthly data and eventual unlocking.

As per online discussion, the company has been unlocking their phones after two months of use.

Research material and user comments: https://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_moto_g_(2025)-13624.php

Will get Android 17 and approx another two years of security updates.

Edit: updated unlock policy posted below, unlock after 1 year. And apparently Tracfones can use SafeLink Wireless service right out of the box as well.

the current whitehouse administration ended the rule that was requiring carriers to unlock in a timely manner

so they don't unlock anymore

ever since Verizon took over tracfone I don't think people are getting their phone unlocked anymore

when you see someone post that their phone was unlocked, look if the post date was before 2025

btw you will never ever get the bootloader unlocked or root on a tracfone branded phone so you basically never really own it

Thank you. I briefly looked for recent unlocking examples, haven't seen anything yet except that Tracphones can apparently work with SafeLink wireless service right out of the box.

Unlocking a cellphone associated with one of Verizon Value's brands refers to disabling software that would otherwise prevent you from activating the cellphone on another carrier's network. However, due to different carrier technologies, an unlocked Verizon Value cellphone may not work, or may experience limited functionality, on another carrier's network. Verizon Value is not responsible for any limitations of service, or otherwise, resulting from the use of an unlocked cellphone on another provider's network. Verizon Value is unable to unlock Non-Verizon Value branded cellphones using Verizon Value service (BYOP).

Verizon Value will remotely unlock the phone when it becomes eligible for unlocking, provided it meets the following conditions:

  • Verizon Value will unlock the phone upon request, either remotely (for phones capable of remote unlocking) or by providing unlocking codes (for phones not capable of remote unlocking) when it becomes eligible for unlocking, provided it meets the following conditions:
  • The cellphone must be in working condition and turned ON.
  • The cellphone has not been reported stolen or lost and there are no indicators of fraud.
  • The cellphone was activated with Verizon Value service by purchasing and redeeming an airtime plan on that specific phone ("Activation")
  • For all cellphones Activated on the T-Mobile or AT&T networks on or before January 19, 2026, the cellphone will be remotely unlocked upon customer request after 365 days of paid and active service.
  • For all cellphones Activated on the Verizon network on or before January 19, 2026, the cellphone will be remotely unlocked automatically 60 days after paid Activation and 60 days of paid active service.
  • For all cellphones Activated on or after January 20, 2026, the cellphone will be unlocked upon request after 365 days of paid and active service.

Verizon Value may refuse any unlocking request that would result in an abuse of its Unlocking Policy or is part of an effort to defraud Verizon Value or its customers. This Unlocking Policy is subject to change at any time without advance notice.

Unlocking Policy for Deployed Military Personnel:

If you are a Verizon Value customer in the military and receive relocation orders outside of the Verizon Value coverage area, we will unlock your cellphone at your request, even during the applicable lock period following the activation of your cellphone.

Customers who would like to check if they are eligible or submit an unlocking request can do so online below or by calling 1-888-442-5102.

They'll unlock it after the built-in plan completes, 1 year. Found a Redditor that claimed a company rep still unlocked his phone after two months, likely got lucky with a kind rep.

Based on that wording, the phone has one year of service already paid up front. I could see how someone could try to have it unlocked.

Looked into it some more. It can be unlocked after 365 days and will be automatically if possible and this phone has that feature

yes verizon (now) owns several prepaid services that are all the same service

so they will let them "cross use" among their own brands but not to other owned carriers

"Verizon Value" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verizon_Value
---------------------
Tracfone Wireless
Straight Talk Wireless
Total Wireless
Simple Mobile
SafeLink Wireless
Walmart Family Mobile

but again, even the most clever hackers can never bootloader-unlock or root a tracfone
so no TWRP or LineageOS, etc. on tracfones even after a year

I thought this was only for verizon?
“Mostly effects Verizon” because almost everyone else that was prepaid already had a 365 day unlock policy….

Verizon was one of the few that allowed unlock after 60 days of continuous service. They own many smaller prepaid services.

FYI:

Love this phone! There was some confusion about the ankint of data that I would receive. Your website says “4.5gb”, but I only received 1.5gb. After much time on the phone with Tracfone, I finally realized that I was to use the 3gb gift card you supplied in the box - 1.5 + 3 = 4.5. It could have saved me a lot of time and frustration (not to mention the time of the Tracfone employees) if I had known the 4.5 gb data included having me apply the 3gb card. Other than that, I’m happy with the phone. It’s the same brand and model I previously owned.

There's a card in the box that must be applied, it'll furnish an additional 3GB data that gets added to the 1.5GB that these phones normally come with, totaling 4.5GB.
