There is a pushback against the World Health Organization’s decision to define a disease called “gaming disorder,” as its methodology and motives aren’t clear. A number of academics and researchers have penned a paper arguing against it, noting a lack of evidence and the potential for unfair restrictions.

Some people have an unhealthy relationship with video games and the authors of this paper don’t claim otherwise. They just think that video game addiction is a complicated topic, the science isn’t in, and putting gaming disorder in the ICD will do more harm than good.

Some people have an unhealthy relationship with gardening. Anything a person loves doing can potentially become 'unhealthy', if it affects relationships or it prevents a person from doing more important things in their life...

Gardening disorder, sports disorder, car disorder, booty disorder... that list goes on.

Let me guess, this study came after China gave the WHO some money to conduct a study.

Yup, it's a disease -- a bad one.

I should be placed on full disability and be given free Internet access to treat my disorder in compliance with the ADA.

And since it's a disease my gaming name must be HIPPA protected by STEAM.

Agree no idea why this is any different than any other obsessive behavior.

right, the problem is, there hasnt been an industry yet loading gardening with excessice releases of dopamine - as there has been a whole industry for gaming.

The computer's OS should be able to recognize and limit a person's gaming time.

Perhaps it could be tied to a person's computer access license ID#

Nobody will take them seriously when there's a pedophilia disorder among billionaires. Treat them first and stop them from going to Islands in the Caribbean. Maybe do an age verification check with children on islands too?

Parental controls? Sure.

But telling me, a full grown adult that paid a ton of money for a gaming PC, that I cannot use it because I've used it too much? That's a great way to lose future revenue because I will not be "renting" time on my PC.

Indeed. This is old news.
Brain activity of drug addicts going through severe withdrawal were compared to brain activity of gaming addicts that were forced to unplug. The similarities are shocking.
And as far as computer OS' are concerned, let's just let the (operating system) do just that. Provide a way for the computer to run. If someone needs a nanny, they can load that software on. Or use external hardware to control what comes in and goes out.
