Interested in this tech so I goggled it in regard to larger screens. I realize this is more like roadmap rumor and if anything is a few years out if it comes to fruition, so it's more tech news than display model - but this forum is related and I frequent this sub more.

This may be based on rumors/leaks somewhat in the referenced links (and it's an AI response pasted here), so take it with a grain of salt. If it pans out it could be great though.

According to this, they may make a (glasses free) 3D tandem oled in a large "Ark" format. Potentially, it could even be 6K, where the 55" 4k ark's PPD was not that great when sitting at it's center of curvature. No idea what it's Hz at native rez would be.

If they delivery quality on something like that, it would likely be a dream display for me, (even if they have samsung matte on it, where I much prefer glossy - especially on OLEDs).

Samsung is actively working on a massive, specialized successor to the Odyssey Ark concept for 2026, 2027, and 2028, but the core display technology is undergoing a major evolution. [1, 2, 3]
Instead of simply releasing a "3rd Gen" version of the same Mini-LED curved screen, Samsung is branching the giant desktop monitor category into two distinct avenues: Glasses-Free 3D Spatial Displays and Ultra-Premium Micro-LED/OLED hybrids. [1, 2]

1. The Direct Successor: The Odyssey 3D Series (2026–2027)
Samsung has officially shifted its flagship, premium "cockpit/spatial" hardware engineering away from basic 2D multi-window stacking and into glasses-free stereoscopic 3D. [1, 2, 3]
  • The Technology: While smaller 27-inch and 37-inch versions have begun rolling out globally, Samsung is leveraging its developer networks to scale this architecture toward the 55" Ark-sized canvas. The display uses eye-tracking cameras paired with a specialized lenticular lens layer to build depth and track your head movements.
  • The Interface: Like the Ark, these displays are built with real-time AI spatial conversion, meaning they can actively morph traditional 2D flat games and workplace software layouts into a projected 3D space without needing a VR headset. [1, 2, 3, 4]

2. The Panel Upgrade: Mini-LED to Tandem OLED and Micro-LED (2027–2028) [1, 2]
If you like the Ark mainly for its sheer immersive curved size, Samsung's internal panel roadmaps point to a structural material shift by 2027:
  • The Problem with Current Ark Tech: The 1st and 2nd Gen Arks rely on Quantum Mini-LED technology. While bright, twisting a 55" Mini-LED screen into a massive 1000R curve creates localized blooming and backlighting uniformity issues when viewed from up close.
  • The 2027–2028 Shift: Samsung Display's manufacturing roadmap heavily prioritizes Penta Tandem OLED panels and long-term Micro-LED commercialization. Because OLED and Micro-LED use self-emissive, individual pixels, Samsung can curve massive 55-inch sheets without creating any backlight bleeding, blooming, or gray-uniformity issues. Samsung Display is specifically targeting 2027 and 2028 as the commercial sweet spot for scaling these highly advanced, ultra-durable multi-stack panels into the mass consumer workspace. [1, 2]

Should You Buy the 2nd Gen Ark Now or Wait?
  • Buy the Odyssey Ark 2nd Gen if: You need a high-brightness multi-source screen right now, rely heavily on rotating your monitor into vertical Cockpit Mode, or need a hardware KVM switch to jump between a work laptop and a gaming desktop.
  • Wait until 2027/2028 if: You are looking for flawless OLED contrast on a 55-inch monitor, hate Mini-LED blooming around text, or want to jump directly into glasses-free 3D holographic gaming. [1]

. . .

For reference, there are a few other threads already about the samsung 3D tech, but those threads are focused on the smaller screens:

https://hardforum.com/threads/samsu...worlds-first-1040hz-display-and-more.2045647/

. .

I'll probably end up with a 48" C6 for a few years, but if that large format 3d screen comes out and is quality I'll definitely look forward to getting one.

I wouldn't bet against that. Some claim curves cause "internal" reflections, too, so more than likely even if not considering Samsung's move to matte across the board, but them covering everything in abraded surfaces, I'd be shocked if it wasn't.

I would like to see improvements to it, but I what I'd like to see are these:
  • Slightly smaller size. 50" would be great.
  • Higher res. 6K or 8K. I'm sure MacOS will still refuse to scale it to HiDPI properly.
  • Better software. The TizenOS is just kinda ass so I have very low hopes for Samsung to deliver.
Personally I don't care too much about OLED vs mini-LED for this sort of display.

I only have hints from searches, but I'd assume it would be 6k if anything. The rumor-search results seem to suggest it wouldn't be mini led due to the issues that had on the exisiting ark displays.

. .

Just AI search aggregation so who knows, but this is the kind of thing it keeps coming up with:

"
Samsung is shifting the core display technology for the Odyssey Ark successor toward Penta Tandem OLED and Micro-LED to solve the backlight blooming and uniformity issues found in the current Mini-LED models. This evolution focuses on self-emissive pixels that can maintain perfect black levels and clarity even across the massive 55-inch, 1000R curved panel. [1]

Key Technological Shifts (2026–2028)
  • Penta Tandem OLED: Roadmaps for 2027–2028 indicate a move to multi-stack OLED panels to significantly increase durability and peak brightness.
  • Micro-LED Commercialization: Samsung is targeting this period to scale Micro-LED for the high-end consumer workspace, offering extreme brightness without organic decay.
  • Glasses-Free 3D: Concepts for a future "Ark-style" 3D display incorporate real-time eye-tracking to deliver stereoscopic depth without headsets.
  • Resolution Bump: Successors are expected to transition from 4K to 6K resolution to improve Pixels Per Inch (PPI) for users sitting at the monitor's tight center of curvature. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

2026 Odyssey Lineup Highlights
While the "Ark successor" is a longer-term roadmap project for 2027/2028, Samsung's 2026 Odyssey lineup introduces foundational tech"

Giant grain of salt on the whole thing as the AI is chasing it's tail referencing this thread in at least one of those follow up reply links, (which is referencing itself). The old carbon paper copy wear out concern with ai thing.

. .

It could still be a hope though, with some large flagship oled with all of samsung's upcoming bells&whistles, even if a few years out.
