Mass Drop site converted

Wtf...? What is Corsair thinking? Drop headphones were popular, why ruin a good thing?

Meh, Drop has been dead to me for years at this point anyway.

The original Massdrop was cool. They featured a variety of interesting products, and it was a lot more community driven. People voted for which products that they wanted to see get a “drop”, and the site concept centered around a group buy aspect where the price of the item would decrease as more people committed to what was essentially a preorder.

Then they changed their name to Drop and essentially became just another storefront, but for a limited selection of the same items (mostly keyboards and headphones) over and over. Many of the items were their own “Massdrop exclusive” version of a similar retail product…many of them were pretty good, but I’ve been receiving their daily email for a long time and they just kept peddling the same stuff over and over ad nauseum. I’ve been seeing the same headphones, DACs, and LOTR-themed keyboards being advertised for years.

In short, there was nothing really special about them anymore unless you just really liked their rebranded collabs which were usually not all that different from the original product that they were based on.

I bought a keyboard from Drop maybe 6-7 years ago. It was a specialty item with hot-swappable switches that didn't swap well at all. Returned for refund and never went back. Forgot all about Drop until I saw this thread title.

Yeah, the first few years were awesome. Got a lot of great audiophile equipment from back then.

Same, brother. I wasn't a big fan of Corsair before all this, but they've recently been added to my boycott list. Drop kinda sucked after they took over, but we still had some cool products. Oh - if anyone wanted the Drop+Grell OAE1 headphones, they're up on Amazon for $68. Grell OAE1 Amazon Link

Corsair joined the likes of NZXT, Thermaltake and HP. They are dead to me.
