World of Warcraft - 11th Expansion: Midnight

It will be interesting to see how this expansion plays out. They really shook-up the game this time. They really tried to simplify gameplay by removing extra abilities/talents that had collected over the years, or by merging them with other abilities/talents. They also implemented sweeping new restrictions for in-game addons that wiped out some of the most popular addons in the game (Weakauras, etc). The combo of those two big things, and the side-effects from an ilvl/stat squish also, really pissed-off a lot of existing players. The addon issue really cannot be understated. It's been rough on healers, as many healers use custom raid-frames for healing. I've played my Resto Druid now for over two decades, and I've used the same healing addon since the very beginning (Healbot). The raid frames, via the addon, are the main way in which I interact with the game, so to have those get broken after 20 years is a pretty tough pill to swallow.

But on the plus side, for those who are new or returning to the game, it's never been easier to get into it as none of the negatives mentioned above really affect you. Despite my preference for certain addons, the stock UI has never been better. With the built-in rotation assistant, one-button rotation, etc, you can practically play a class without actually learning it now.

Almost sounds like they're pushing the game to play more comfortably with a gamepad.

Didn't they remove the ability to use add-ons and built in some of that functionality? I wonder how that is going to work out.

I pre-ordered back in Nov, didn't realize it opens up tomorrow.

I've been playing since launch, but last several expansions, going back to BfA, I'm hot and cold with this game. At launch of a brand new expansion, I'm addicted again, and play it every night for a good month or two, see and explore the new zones and level up several characters, and see the Raids ( typically just LFR or Normal nowadays ) then after a few months I get burned out again, and stop playing until the next big patch. Rinse and repeat.

But I will say Blizz have been much better lately with more content updates faster and more frequently, which is a big deal, and great to see. Even this expansion is coming out maybe the soonest than any expansion before it, it's only been like 18 months, where typically it's 2 years or so.

And I've been pretty happy with TWW, and quality of life changes, the game is fun, and settled in a good groove. I actually like the talent and spell changes to be more streamlined and not so complicated anymore, that was a must have. It got crazy with some classes having like 13 different spells to click for your rotation. Now with the single button assist which I at first I thought was stupid, I actually like it, and can move around quicker, and do similar dps as before, but easier and more relaxed.

And the tier gear sets have bene looking pretty bad ass too, the Death Knight sets in TWW were super awesome looking.

I'm excited to go back to Silvermoon and explore the redone zones.

Yeah. There was a time when I thought that WoW on console would be a bad thing, but I don't know how long computer gaming can survive the constant AI price-inflation and price-volatility of major components. I'm more of the mindset that anything that gets new players coming into the game is a good thing at this point. I also think that the argument itself has changed as consoles creep closer toward the capabilities of a computer. For example, the console conversation always involves gamepads, and I think that some classes in WoW could be played fine on a gamepad, but you can absolutely also plug a keyboard and mouse into a modern console if you want to.

Game director Ion Hazzikostas said there are no plans for a console version. They are just decreasing complexity, but keeping "depth."

That goes back to what I was saying before that really, the discussion itself has changed. There is no need for a "console version". The next XBox is going to run a real version of Windows, and will be able to run 3rd party game launchers (including Battle.net). There is no need for a "console version" since you will be able to simply install and run the regular version of the game. WoW already has gamepad/controller support.

And as the industry pushes toward subscription game-streaming, those who go down that path will be able to use pretty much any compatible client device on their end.

Current consoles already support mouse & keyboard. It is the game developer's responsibility to support those controls. You could use USB keyboards and mice on the PlayStation 2 25 years ago.

Haven't played in 4 years, decided to jump back in with a Night Elf Mage to see what all the changes are like. Blizzard did do a pretty decent job with the UI. Still not as good as ElvUI, but if you don't want to use an addon it's easy enough to customize and save layouts.

I’m enjoying it so far. Not a whole lot of time to play but enjoying the atmosphere. If I hear Arator say one more time “it’s better to ask for forgiveness instead of permission” I’ll punch him so hard I can Rez him as undead minion.

So Blizz did an incredible job with the revamp of Silvermoon and redoing those old zones. I have to say I'm really liking this new expansion a lot so far. But I've turned into a filthy casual the last few expansions, playing 4 alts back and forth and just taking my time enjoying it.

So with the next expansion Titan, supposedly taking place in Northrend, will we get another revamped Dalaran??

Dalaran is a pile of rubble on the shores of the Isle of Dorn. Maybe Blizzard could build out Warsong Hold and Valgarde, or the Argent Tournament grounds if they want a neutral location.

AI Overview

World of Warcraft: The Last Titan
(the third expansion in the Worldsoul Saga) will feature a heavily revamped Northrend, focusing on the return of the Titans to Azeroth. As of early 2026, no official main city hub has been confirmed, but there is significant speculation based on the story:
  • Ulduar (Likely Candidate): As the Titans return to Azeroth, Ulduar is considered a strong contender for the central hub.
  • Wyrmrest Temple: As the home of the Dragon Aspects, this location is a potential candidate for a neutral hub, assuming it is rebuilt or repurposed.
  • Icecrown Citadel: With the Ebon Blade fighting the Scourge in the area, some speculate that this location could be repurposed into a base of operations.
  • Revamped Northrend City: Blizzard has confirmed that Northrend is being completely rebuilt to be modernized, meaning old hubs might look completely different or be replaced.

Been having a ton of FUN with my Unholy DK since the pre-patch, but today's MASSIVE nerf to the spec sounds like a deal killer, just sapping away all the fun and making them attack like a wet noodle now.

I have 2 different DK alts ( Hight Elf and Blood Elf ) one is level 87, the other is level 83. Been leveling them in Unholy casually, as my main is a Ret Paladin. But should I switch to Blood spec now? Heard that got a big buff.

UH was a bit over the top and needed bumped down. Leveled my dk as unholy as well.

ret got bumped up a little i believe.

I started as dk this expansion got it to 90 then switch to shammy, have been having fun with that one. ENH is just very sparky with the effects and is fun to see when you faceroll the keyboard haha.

This whole process of nerfing the piss out of your favorite characters is one of the many reasons I stopped playing. Investing time into a character isn't a small time sink. It requires massive dedication ... and then Blizzard flips a switch and forces you to either change specs, or they ruin the class so much in its entirety that you have to switch or start a new one. The balance in this game is always a joke ... and it's tiring "hoping" the next patch will make your character fun again.

Just for fun, I spec'd into Blood which I haven't played really since Shittylands, and WOW, they are like immortal, or being like a solid lead wall for a nuclear bomb bunker, my health like never goes down.

Yeah I'm only doing open world content in Midnight leveling up still, I'm level 87, but I can grab every mob in sight and bunch them up and just kill them all while maybe losing 10% to 20% health while attacking 6 to 8 enemies at the same time. Only issue is, it takes longer to kill them, compared to Unholy spec where mobs go down fast, not so fast in Blood. But in Unholy I could never tackle 8 enemies at once without my health going way down, or fluctuating up and down like a yoyo while having to play close attention to healing myself. In Blood those worries are totally gone, it just takes longer.

i don't play that seriously anymore so it doesn't affect me. Usually get our AOTC for new raids after a few weeks in my group then dork around after that and gear up alts.

it has gotten a lot better

I mean you had this at one point
Mage single target rotation
  1. Cast spell_fire_soulburn.gif Scorch to apply 5 stacks of spell_fire_soulburn.gif Improved Scorch, and maintain these stacks as required.
  2. Repeatedly cast spell_fire_flamebolt.gif Fireball.

Yes, I remember. 😂

And one of my favorite things to do with new expansion is to gear up and go kick in the teeth of raid bosses of the last expansion that gave me a hard time lol.

Is fire Mage this simple now? I'm usually a melee plate player; DK, Paladin, and Warrior, never got into the casters as I had to stand put and wait for spells to ramp up, never liked that gameplay.

But I'd be willing to dust off an old Mage i created years ago if they play that simply LOL

nooo, that was classic/burning crusade era.

Mage isn't too complicated this round. The frostfire feel of it is kinda fun. Hit the flashing square spells and you should be good to go.

Yes this is always fun. I did test the boss timer on an old raid boss before by doing nothing and it still murders you instantly if you wait too long. So that was neat.

That blows. I was going to start leveling one since I had yet to play the class. Maybe I'll try Frost instead. It's funny because I wanted to use an Ironforge Dwarf and spent the time doing that solo since it's so old and nobody groups up for that anymore. I never really played the game that much, but I am almost 90 on my Arcane Mage now. Have gone through Dragonflight and Legion, working through Pandaria. Did the Ironforge Dwarf instances at 55.

There is a 1-button rotation helper in the game that you can put in your action bar that will run through suggested talents and it actually isn't that bad. It won't use certain talents like mana dumps, though, so you still need to run through your rotation manually to maximize DPS.
That's good to know.

I'm going back to Unholy spec now that they buffed the nerf LOL

That DK is currently level 87-3/4, and the Campaign questing is done at 17/17. What should I do to level up 2-1/4 levels?

haven't kept up, but isn't blood the tanking spec? makes sense that it's easier to pull many / doesn't do as much dmg.

pvp! thats what i used to almost exclusively do :)
if they still have the 10 lvl wide gap in pvp you might get melted by the 89s though. no idea if it actually gives sizeable xp

Dungeons, delves, side quests, crafting (each first time craft grants about 1 quest worth of xp up to a level and a half worth).

Its because they can’t balance anything so they change everything and start over. By the time season three rolls around and the next expo comes they do it all over again. All software does this. Its a pathetic way to make it look like they are doing something.

If you haven't, do all of the delve quests that are found inside the delves. However save them to 89 as they scale XP on level. Can turn in enough to almost level to 90 or get close. Unless you did them and turned them in as you completed like I did...

And don't level a little here and a little there. Level a toon to max then do another, you get a 5% boost to xp gains per 90 up to 5x (25%). Will be a better use of time if that matters to you.
