"All of this really underlines things we already know, but remember these are Sony's goals for consumers. What's really interesting is how they're handling tools and hardware for developers. Sony has shipped out lots of PS5 devkits and is likely rolling out new SDKs and software-based technologies to ensure backward compatibility. Sony is expected to reveal the PS5 in a special event in February 2020. The console will release in Holiday 2020, and it may cost $499."

I find console/console wars far less interesting now that the hardware is essentially the same between them, which also happens to be a low-mid range gaming PC at whatever time they release. Its just software wars now. No more 'Emotion Engine vs Dolphin' or 'Cell vs Xenon'.

Yep, the console wars are over & have been for a long time.

Just make my playstation not be a crybaby because power goes out. And no matter what I do CEC always causes my ps4 to turn on randomly while doing something else and then my tv/receiver switch inputs. Stop overcomplicating consoles. I look to console to just work, not to have to rebuild the filesystem after a bad shutdown. I dunno, just seems like they are moving away from their original strong points as they 'evolve'.

Yup, I enjoyed the days of unique hardware. To my younger self all the hype and marketing speak promoting a new system was exciting and kind of magical. These days they're just PCs in packaging designed to look cool in the living room. Yippee.

I refuse to be jaded ... and choose to be excited instead.

Useful tech info instead of just quoting the end:

..for speed, Sony wants to basically eliminate loading times with a new ultra-fast SSD to remarkably boost access times. PS5 owners will have near instant access to their games, complete with customized install options. Let's say you only want to play the campaign of a new game and don't feel like installing the 100GB+ onto your SSD; the PS5 will let you pick and choose what parts to install. The PS5's SSD is so fast it's able to load a sequence in Spider-Man in just 0.83 seconds versus the PS4 Pro's 8 seconds.

Hopefully the part about installing on the SP component comes to PCs. I know some CoD games did this in the past (might be wrong, but they had different shortcuts and .exes) but it seems to have been dropped. With how large some games are getting, I'd love to uninstall the SP portion and save 10-15GB or so. If I want to replay it, I'll redownload it.

SSD wise, I wonder how it will compare to a regular PC. Probably not enough to be noticeable. Going from a 5400 RPM HDD will be a huge jump though.
