I have a couple of the Netgear GSM7224 24 ports managed Gigabit switches. I have recently bought one in to operation & it is only used to connect my home media devices such as TV's, 4K BluRay Players, Media Streamers & a couple a PC's to them to serve up Plex streams. TYhe issue I hve is the fans a like a typhoon pushing through the office!!!! As these are not in racks with high temperature devices cooking them, would they still operate properly & reliably if I unplugged the fans? I never had any issues with heat etc with the Netgear GS108 Gigabit Switch that it replaced (added more devices to the network and was getting sick of running out of mains sockets with all the separate switches daisy chained).

Better bet would be to replace them with Noctua fans. Are they 40mm?
Most probably yes. I haven't opened one up yet. A friend of mine who works in a small hosting department gave me them as they changed over to newer models. Absoluetely wonderful; ubnits other than the leaf blower sound coming from it on my desk!
