I just got probably the best open box deals of my life from my local Micro Center:
Gigabyte X399 Gaming 7 - $89.96
Threadripper 2920X - $239.96
With tax $354.66 total.
The board was in a non-original box with only the backplate. There was some thermal compound on the top of the metal over the socket and on the clear socket cover, and on some other areas like ram slots. Some alcohol and a rag fixed that all up easily enough.
The cpu had all original packaging, but was opened. It had some thermal paste around the edges and the bottom looked a bit dirty, so more work with rags and alcohol and it cleaned up nicely.
At first the ram in slot 2 was not detected, but I took out the cpu and installed it again. I went slower, tightening the screws a little each at a time, and now I have quad channel RAM. (That was advice from Kyle in a video on how to install threadrippers, so thanks Kyle.)
I know the 3rd gen Ryzen on AM4 has much better IPC but this is a pretty cool combo and I'll probably stick with it for a while.
