So, I've got my 9900x stable at 5Ghz (uncore at 4.9Ghz) with 1.26V. However, everytime I up the uncore to 5Ghz, the Core #5 overheats. I currently have Noctua NH-15 cooling my cpu. Will it be worth to invest on a good AIO or custom water help to tame the overheating?

That's a low voltage for those speeds. Have you tried removing and re-installing your cooler?

What are the other core temps? Is there a huge delta between them or are the others close in temp and #5 just happens to be the one to max out?

It was the first thing I checked. I was making a full contact as far as I can see.

Only Core #5 reaches 90C while others are at around 70C.

I actually had the very same problem on a ASUS ROG Maximus XI APEX review sample. I tried both the Core i9 9900K and the Core i5 9600K. Both had the same problem. I also tried numerous BIOS revisions and remounted my CPU cooler several times. Nothing corrected the issue. I contacted ASUS on the matter and they actually sent me a new motherboard. This resolved the issue.

I was able to bring down the temperature by 10C when I removed 2 sticks of RAM from the system.
Didn't know running 4 sticks would burden the CPU that much.

You shouldn't have to do that.

Did you ever try updating your bios?

Yes, the latest stable. I know there are beta bios available. I don't touch betas.

I have the same problem with my 6700K, 2 cores+HT are 15C higher than the others.
I delidded it to lower the temps and see if it would help, and it did... for a while.
Temps of all cores were lower and within 4C of each other but after a few days the temps on 2 cores started rising again and within a few weeks were 15C up again.
I worked out the lid isnt flat on the inside causing the paste to slowly pump out with heat cycling where the tiny gap is.
Tested multiple times and with different pastes, the thicker the paste the slower it happens.

Then a year ago there was a Kickstarter for a direct die water block so I put myself down for one.
Unfortunately the guy was messed about terribly and is now building his own CNC machine to make them directly himself.
We havent got them yet, maybe a few months yet.

I believe there is another way to direct die cool the 9900K, I read about it a while back.
But If its still under warranty I would get another to be safe.

Der8auer has a direct die mounting bracket
