Best M.2 SATA III SSD?

So in short I can't use an NMVe SSD in my gaming laptop even though I have the appropriate port. Due to power constraints I'm limited to SATA M.2 and I want to ditch this 1 TB HDD.

So, MLC or TLC?

Samsung 950, 960 EVO, or WD blue?

All three linked are good choices.

TLC-based is fine, there's generally no advantage with MLC for typical usage.

M.2 SATA? Samsung 860 EVO or Crucial MX500 (or Intel 545s, if you can find it). WD Blue 3D is also pretty good. These are all TLC, I wouldn't look at MLC.

The 960 EVO is a NVMe drive, not SATA.

950 and 960 are NVME

850 and 860 are SATA

for you I’d probably got with a 860 EVO
