How do new CPU releases work for purchasing purposes?

So I think this is the first time I have ever actually been waiting for a new PC component to be released. I have all of my other parts ready, just missing a CPU. I have yet to see any Zen 2 CPU product pages to show up at the regular websites, and no pre-order info that I am aware of.

Does the July 7th release date mean that all suppliers will have at least a limited supply for sale? Are there normally pre-orders or is it just a mad dash to try to get an order in from sites like newegg or amazon as they get supply?

Although there have been paper launches in the past I expect AMD to have products ready to sale next week.

Sleep on the sidewalk in front of store doing a midnight madness Ryzen 2 launch and........no one cares that much that you'd have to beat out a huge line of people.

I don't think there will be that many stores doing 12:01 sales either.

Nobody knows.

Good luck!

Micro Center is apparently going to be open at 7AM Eastern. Yes, even the ones that aren't on the east coast, or at least that's what they said on Facebook last time I checked. That may not turn out to be true. I'd check by calling my local store the day before. :)

If I weren't planning on waiting for the reviews, so I knew which particular CPU I wanted, I'd try to be there at opening, just in case.

I’m trying to imagine MC employees in Tustin opening the doors at 4am for 8 AMD fanboys trying to get their YouTube and Twitch streamer rep up.
Sucks for them to try to grow their channels without any manufacturer recognition.
There will also be about a dozen meth heads on bikes that just had nothing else to do.
That’ll be fun hyped up crew to deal with.

Maybe Bitwit, Jay, or Paul will do a drive by to shoot some B roll bc they all live within a reasonable drive of that MC.

Tustin is specificaly the store MC mentioned as "opening at 7AM EST". I assume that's in California?

Yeah, south east from Long Beach.
Everytime I'm in LA I think about hitting it up but what id spend in gas would easily offset any savings.

Also bored tweakers on bikes aren't appealing to me as social engagement.

There will be at least one annoying kid on YouTube or Twitch that'll do a walkthru trying to get some hype.

Yeah, that's fair. I've lived near several of them and a few Frys' over the years. but if it's an hour+ drive or something, yeah, no.

Right now I'm like...a 20 minute drive from a Micro Center and 3 Frys.

This isn't the sweetspot to buy AMD right now.
I don't know why someone that isn't generating invoices using their build would be so fired up.

My concern is launch bugs, I don't like to be an unpaid QA tester.

I usually stay at my buddy's house in Burbank when I'm working

They're *new*, man.

I've said already I am gonna wait a couple weeks to see how they OC and how much better a 6- or 8-core will be than my 1600X. Right now I run 3.9GHz at...1.375V I think. It'll run 4.0 at that voltage but I'm too lazy to dial in tighter settings.

I've got MMO I play that is somewhat CPU-bound (too much stuff on one thread) and supposedly gets better frame rates during world boss missions the higher your clock speeds are so I am hoping for something in the range of 4.7 all-core, and that that will make a difference.

The Microcenter in Minnesota is opening at 8am CST, I plan on being there to buy a 3800x or 3900x if possible.
