Normally I am strict about installing system updates on my Windows 10 computers. Drivers, bios, OS, etc. However, just noticed that 41 programs have available updates from the Windows store. Most of the programs don't look familiar, which means they must not be in use. Recommend installing, or ignore?

Noticed this when updating iTunes today.

You should install them all without question. You might get AIDs or something otherwise (apparently if you don't have updates you get instant viruses and hacking according to some here). Don't you like being forced to have candy crush?

I always get a solid laugh a day our of your responses. I'm happy the [H] still has character.

After a fresh install of 10 you will be prompted to install/update all of the installed apps on the computer. Once they are fully updated you can remove them. It sucks but if you try to remove them before updating, they will just come back since the update was already triggered.

The Apps are already installed, so the damage is already done. Not patching them yet leaving them installed would be all kinds of wrong.

Unless you are a programmer with MS keys to the kingdom and you are testing apps for issues then by all means leave them unipatched until your work is done.

In between the sarcastic but funny responses this seems to be the situation:
Option 1: leave unpatched, bad idea
Option 2: patch apps and move on
Option 3: patch apps and then uninstall them (recommended)

I like how -0- of the apps are mentioned by name. Is that how we troubleshoot Windows now?
Partial list below:
Xbox
Skype
Your Phone
App Installer
Xbox Identity Provider
Office
Microsoft Messaging
Windows Calculator

If you're on 1903, you can actually remove the majority of Windows Store apps you don't want. I'd suggest purging the unwanted ones and updating the rest.

These are all apps or system components that are part of Windows. I'll trust you know what Skype and Calculator are. You can probably to a reliable degree of certainty guess what most of the others are.
