I am putting Windows 10 on an older laptop; about six years old. When I bought this laptop (new) it came with Windows 8 and I immediately removed the slow HDD and installed and SSD and put Windows 7 on it. Recently, I formatted the SSD and am now trying to install Windows 10. Windows 10 did install on the laptop but it never asked me for a key. It currently shows as running Windows 10 Home but I want Pro.

I purchased a Win10Pro key from here on the FS/FT forums. Each time I try to activate the Pro key Windows says the key is not valid. The seller already issued me a second key and it does not activate either. Are these keys just bad or is there something wrong on my end? I installed Widows 10 on the laptop using a USB thumb drive with a Windows 10 installer on it. The installer is not supposed to be version specific. Is this a common scenario?
