I'm not sure if it's even possible anymore to get Photoshop without a subscription, but I figure I'll try. My daughter has been using GIMP for the last several years for her digital art and will be heading off to college next year. While she's exceedingly proficient with GIMP, I'd like to get her used to Photoshop to get her ready for her classes and whatnot.

Yeah, I know once she's in college she'll likely be able to get a massive discount on Photoshop through the school, but as I said I'd like her to get a bit of experience with it BEFORE hand. That said, I'm hoping to find a semi-recent version of Photoshop for her to use. I know I can get CS2 for free from Adobe, so definitely something newer than that.

LMK what you've got. Heatware under SunnyD

I know you said you dont want to do subscription. But for $9.99 a month she can get light room and photoshop. And when she get to college she can get discount then. Or if she has an edu email now she can get discount now. But being able to use the lstest version would be worth it for the experience.

My wife was laid off last year and she use to do photography as a hobby. She just stated this back up and that is what we did. I thought subscription based is a waste but i think its worth it for just $10 a month.

Just my .02.

if you don't want to do subscription... you can still find local copies.. on amazon there is Photoshop 6 for $150... but also I think I recall the term "Classic" used.. search for those.

if she doesn't require the full version - there is a version called "Elements" and personally I like it a lot more. wife bought me photoshop/premiere elements v9 years ago and it is really nice..
I see you can still get it and in 2019 version!!!

Photoshop CS6 (aka v 13.0) was the last non-cloud subscription version released in 2012. I used to be anti-Creative Cloud... but gave up the fight after wrestling with a lot of CS6's niggling issues.

Thanks for the suggestion... I'll look into it. But maybe the use case can be answered here for me - she does digital art and animation, not photography. Is Elements remotely useful for that or will the full Photoshop CC be what she's looking for? (Think freehand pen tablet sort of drawing here)
