Wargroove recently released to significant acclaim! Developed and published by Chucklefish, known for involvement in a number of noteworthy indie titles such as Stardew Valley, Risk of Rain, and Starbound, Wargroove is a retro turn-based strategy title reminiscent of Nintendo's GBA and Nintendo DS series "Advance Wars", but fans of "Fire Emblem" , "Shining Force", or even PC titles like the excellent open source "Battle for Wesnoth" and "Into the Breach".

Wargroove has all matters of online and offline play modes including a major story campaign and built in support for mods and user created campaigns/content! The campaign is a good way to be introduced to the main characters and factions as they will be important. At current, there are 4 main factions with similar-but-differing unit types, each playing a little differently. Adding to this are Commanders (at least 3 for each faction) which have a physical presence as a hero unit of sorts on the map with other bonuses, but each commander also has a special "groove" ability that can turn the tides or majorly affects play; some take longer to charge and are more super attacks/heals, other are more frequent abilities with less dramatic effects. THere's a lot of variety and its all rendered smoothly in retro pixel graphics; at current there are even some fully animated cutscenes and even some cinematics have at least partial voicing (at the moment, in English).

The mod tools are very in depth (though I am not yet sure if they have released a way to import entirely different graphical assets) and there are already campaigns with stories ready to be played - some even fully co-op! At the moment it is Windows only, but I am told Mac and Linux support are on the way. Provided they arrive, this will be another successful crowdfunded title! Steam Reviews are Very Positive already which is great to see!

Priced at $20 regularly, anyone who owns "Starbound" on Steam will lilkely be granted a 15% discount Coupon so be sure to check your Inventory! However, it can be found at an even larger discount on GreenManGaming, Fanatical, Voidu, and Humble Store!

Hope some will find it enjoyable!

I noticed this yesterday online, definitely reminded me of the old school advance wars series I spent so much time on the Nintendo DS. I initially thought it was only in the switch until I found it on steam.

I too am glad that it has come to Steam; thankfully Chucklefish has a pretty long legacy of PC support. I only hope that releasing on console platforms like the Switch does not cause the devs to limit the amount of modding tools and the power thereof (ie importing entirely new models/graphics etc..). Hopefully, they'll either be all right with the most comprehensive features being available on PC and/or (cross play is PC + Switch + Xbox One) update the online component of the game to allow custom assets to be downloaded/installed much the way they are in some other titles.

The game is far more difficult (especially to obtain high ranks) than its graphics may suggest, but it is certainly a challenge if you plan to at least get 3 stars on every mission (S or A rank. From what I hear getting a ton of stars is necessary for the best ending and there are bonuses/unlockables/secrets for all kinds of things). Still having fun with it and hoping to see it continue to be developed, tweaked and more.

You had me going I thought modern advance wars title... nope not modern military pass :)

Nope, not modern military but still high quality. If you want modern military Advance Wars style, check out Tiny Metal -

Japanese developed and under the radar, I just picked it up during the Steam lunar sale!
