Samsung 970 evo on Asus B150 Pro Gaming

Hi all,

I currently have a Crucial MX300 SSD installed, but I'm going to run out of room soon so I am thinking about upgrade options. I could just install another SATA SSD as an extra drive, or clone my current drive on to a new larger one. I've also been looking at M.2 / NVME options, as I could remove some cables (I like things to be as neat as possible!).

According to the Asus web site, the B150 Pro Gaming features:

1 x M.2 Socket 3, with M Key design, type 2242/2260/2280/22110 storage devices support (Supports both SATA & PCIE SSD)

From what I've read, this looks like it will support an NVME drive (I think this is what the 'PCIE SSD' bit is about). Can anyone confirm if this is the case? Also, would it be running PCIE x2 or x4? Will the Samsung 970 evo work on my motherboard?

Thanks,

Dave.

Hey, yes NVME is linked into the PCIE m.2 marketing mumbo-jumbo, why they have to have so many different ways to say the same thing, Ill never know. This board should also support x4 pci-e lanes to the NVME drive (I just searched the manual via google) 970 SHOULD work with no issues at full speed. Make sure you look at the manual to make sure your settings are right (though it looks like the BIOS auto configures settings when you have a m.2 installed). As usual, Id do some more research and youtube, while someone else tells ME that Im completely wrong ;)
