Is it normal for a laptop's price to jump $300 for 256GB -> 512GB drive?

I want to buy a MSI G65 stealth thin 050, which includes a 512 GB NVMe drive. But I noticed that if I switch to the same version with a 256 GB drive, then the price drops $300. From briefly browsing through random SSD drives on NE, this seems excessive. Isn't it? It looks like the price difference between the same line of 512 vs 256 drive should be much less...

I haven't made any serious computer purchases in literally years, so I feel like I have no idea what's going on in the market these days.

Its excessive, but fairly common for pre-built systems.
If you're capable and can do it yourself you can save yourself some money.
That being said let it be known this model is a pain to upgrade, you have to completely remove the motherboard to access the M.2 or ram slots, to save half an hour the cost is still justified though.
