Pew Die Pie first gaming broadcaster to surpass 10 Billion views

Maybe watched one or two of his videos but can't really stand him. Same for the cynical Brit, angry joe, Francis and all the other morons who make these videos.

I feel my head is about to explode listening to them for about 10 seconds.

I do like Zero Punctuation reviews though lol.

You have to think about the typical internet audience that use youtube hour after hour just watching videos all day. It tends to be kids or immature adults who are into these adrenaline fueled rants and craziness of typical youtubers. PDP perfectly caters to that audience and he made bank big time.
 
I think the bubbles going to pop on this eventually. youtube is 90% "youtube content creators" now who do nothing but post videos of themselves reacting to other youtubers or dumb jump scare games.

It wouldn't be so bad if youtube wasn't so spammy about it. You look on youtube to try and find an old song you like and instead you get 50 covers or completely unrelated "suggested" youtuber crap. It's like myspace or other similar crap. They get too commercialized eventually something new and less obnoxious will kill it.

The most disheartening aspect is that this is all our focus is on anymore. I see stuff like this and I remember "oh yeah we still havent put a man on Mars.". When I go to the gym I don't even bother with the TV it's all just scripted reality shows. I know I sound like a hipster, but I haven't listened to a mainstream song since modest mouse got big. I hide in my hole of abstract soundscape music and soundcloud indie music. Man the worlds gotten so loud with lowest common denominator garbage.

Off-topic but for shits and giggles I watched the first RP debate to distract me while doing some scripting. Christ we've really gotten hate and ignorance down to a science haven't we?

The stuff a lot of us liked when we were pre-teens and younger was pretty stupid and commercialized to hell as well. Entertainment has always catered to the masses just the tastes of those masses change over the years. When the younger generation grows up they too will bitch about what kids like and about how "it was better when they were younger". Adults love to romanticize the era they grew up in. The internet just makes all this stuff much easier to take in and has turned everyone incredibly cynical.
 
It´s entertainment. It´s all valuable as long as someone clicks on the link and watches ads. :)

Its simple! Make a bajillion movie clips and tag it with a bajillion different subjects, and voilah!

I prefer Dan's NerdCubed videos over PewDiePie as far as content. But I do see how PDP is liked by the younger generation.

It's amazing to see his popularity grow. It wasn't too long ago that he was sitting at 29mil. He's gained 10mil in the same time it's taken Conan to gain 500k. I suppose that it does get easier as you gain traction because you're shared/exposed to a wider audience.

Plus, his GF is hot which he met through his videos.

I liked some really dumb stuff when I was a kid. As long as they grow out of it I wouldn't worry too much.
 
PewDiePie is his own personality, who kids watch because they find him entertaining. I think he's the lesser of the evils compared to stuff that rotates on TV when there's dozens/hundreds of no names behind it. He created his own success, keeps delivering videos, and keeps people coming back. It pays him well. He's an example of the new age and is one of the reasons TV is dying. I personally think his content is lame and cheesy, but that's really the least relevant thing since its clear it appeals to many many people. Kids who watch PewDiePie are kids who AREN'T watching TV and that's what I admire in his content.

Compared to corporate hollywood and the cable network monopolies, he's new age, small, and extremely successful, and if thats what it takes to bring down the old dumb shit on TV then so be it.
 
I thought this was kind of interesting. Youtube apparently is not profitable for google. They're rolling out a Chrome patch or something to kill adblock on youtube to try and help with the problem.

For anyone exiting the escapist and similar sites a lot of content creators are moving towards their own hosting and patreon. I still think Youtube is destined to collapse in on itself.

All I can say is props to the guy though. I've tried to watch him and hated it but I have to give him props for making it work.

I will say I do watch some other people on youtube and like the platform. I also like Zero Punctuation.

Not to mention he is obnoxious as all hell. Markiplier follow suit, but he is (slightly) more tolerable. If I would have known I could make millions from scare-camming (mostly shit indie) games I would have done it a LONG time ago.

10 billion is crazy. after watching a video i was shocked... but then remembered the world i live in. and parents thought tv would kill brain cells? still, impressive.
