Ex-subscribers are encouraged to keep their eyes peeled for e-mails from MoviePass, as the troubled company is reactivating canceled accounts unless an opt-out is received. MoviePass is reportedly inviting select users to take part in a test for reviving unlimited movies per month, but consent does not appear to be part of the equation.

If they don't opt out by October 4th, 9PM ET, then the credit card MoviePass has on file will automatically be charged $10 on a monthly basis again. That part could be easy to miss for those who only skim their emails, especially if they know that they already unsubscribed long ago. In the case of Caroline Moss, who was one of the recipients, she had already deleted the app and canceled her recurring subscription via credit card last month.

One of those many things in life that you can utilize to milk while they complete the path to self destruction - you just have to be on your toes for things like this and to make sure you cancel before they screw you over.

In general when it comes to life - outside of basic necessities - Utility bill, electric bill, gas bill, etc... Anyone that wants to charge you on a reoccurring basis is (ultimately) looking to fuck you over at some point in time. It may not be today, tomorrow, or even this year... But I promise you they will send you some craft little hidden notice that they are increasing your bill in hopes that you don't notice.

The sad part is - plenty of Americans are too stupid to notice. It's not difficult to look at your bills, but for some reason stupid people make it out to be.

in the UK the bank would revise change all them moneys taken (does not even need to be a credit card)

Welcome to SaaS.

Pretty much.

I refuse to do it - especially with software. Fuckers are trying to get me to do that with Quicken now... over my cold dead body! :p

I am making a point to go Open Source for everything I possibly can because of that.

At least if someone decides to go full douchebag, there's always the other one that will fork the damn thing and carry on.

Charge backs will follow.

Personally, I just use AMC Stubs Prime. It's 20 bucks for 3 movies/week with some other discounts available. It may not be as good as Movie Pass was, but I don't think I've ever done 3 movies in a week, though I"m sure starting next month there'd be enough for me to do that many in a week. Last week there was nothing and this week at best there's that animated flick (the Kevin Hart flick doesn't look great, unfortunately).

This seems to get fairly close to theft and conspiracy to commit theft. MP knows the accounts were canceled. Going to be hard to claim this was an accident. Doubt they will be successful trying to argue TOS gives them the right to reactivate closed accounts. Who ever in MP that is doing this could be hoping that by the time folks find out and the legal charges start rolling in, they will be safely in an extradition exempt country with whatever money they can move out of the MP accounts.

Beware things that sound too good to be true.
moviepass was one of those things

Thats F***ed up. I had Moviepass and would tell all my friends about how good it was. Then they started limiting it and it all went downhill. SMH, you guys heard about Sinema? same thing as Moviepass, more expensive but hopefully it doesnt crap out.

This is old news. They have been doing this for months under this statement that you didn't opt out and so they are recreating your account and charging you since they don't know your chose. This was covered on here a few months ago.

People who get hit by this should file for charge backs. When the credit card companies get enough of these, they’ll withdraw from being valid Moviepass payments and bury the company.

When MoviePass was blocking every movie in August (essentially putting up and pull limited showtimes), the banks were just automatically clearing the complaints. There were numerous users on the Reddit that said their bank immediately awarded the chargeback in their favor as soon as they mentioned MoviePass.

I'd guess it'd be a similar situation.

Well moviepass ToS changed every other week when i was with them. soooooooo

Opt out or we will re subscribe you to the services you un subscribed from. That cannot possibly be legal.

Lol, this company is the gift that keeps on giving... Entertainment that is, to those of us smart enough to identify an obvious impossible/stupid business model from the start.

Well, if true, this means the of MoviePass as it stands. It's just too hard to run a company from jail.

Good old greedy failing companies doing what they do best, taking money from ex customers and showing they have no shame. I wonder how much longer until MoviePass is just a distant memory.

yea, took me over a month to get a refund after i had cancelled. And I still haven't gotten my refund for the first time i had to buy my own ticket. $14 isn't worth the hassle anymore.
