My spare computer ( similar to sig rig but with Crossfired R9 270X ) is getting a lot of use now, and with the 360w TDP of the 2 cards combined, the power bill has jumped quite a bit. Now they run pretty impressive and are able to max out games like Fallout 4 on ultra with a few things reduced due to Vram limitations. The only drawback is that, the power bill jumped about $30 just from that computer getting used more, and essentially a 1060 6gb uses half the watts and is a bit more powerful. The computers bench nearly identical in Heaven Benchmark when matched with acceptable Vram settings, and my main box is actually a 1060 6gb.

What is a good side grade, if not slight upgrade to this setup? It runs on a cheap 1080P television and 1366x768 is what Windows recommends for the resolution and it seems to be the native resolution for the TV. It will go 1920x1080 with the TV recognizing it but does not look right.. I was kind of thinking GTX 970 or 1060 3gb.. I don't want to dump the latest and greatest into it, because it's a spare.

Another option might be one of those mining-oriented 570's showing up on newegg for 150 or less. They only have DVI though, which might be problematic for your TV (but an adapter should solve that one).

For example, this one. $150 after rebate, and even comes with AC Odyssey.

Yeah, the DVI is a killer. The computer uses the TV's speakers, so getting one of the DVI- HDMI converters that also patch the audio is more than the price difference.

A used GTX 970 would probably be a decent choice. I see some on ebay for under $150.

Personally, I'd go with the GTX 1060 new, since you will have warranty.

The other thing I'm thinking about, is grabbing a 1070 TI off the forum and then tossing the 1060 6gb into the other box. But, I game at 1080P 60hz and for the foreseeable future that is enough GPU for that. As it is, I'm currently playing through Doom 3 on an older box running Win XP and a GT 8600 256mb. It's hard to justify it

Sounds like what you actually have is one of those old "enhanced definition" TVs that accept up to a 1080i signal, but have an actual native resolution of 1366x768. Is this an older plasma set, or a CRT? Those were the most common types that had those characteristics, though there were also cheap LCD displays that were setup like this.

Scored an RX 580 4gb MSI Gaming X for $125. Ex mining card, but pretty much new, came with box and all docs. Was passing over MSI Armors for $140 but the Gaming X at $125 was worth the chance
