Formula Boinc 2018 Strategy

Yep Skillz, unfortunately I can't beat them. So I figure I will try to piss them off. First they followed me to asteroids, so I switched to yoyo. Perhaps I should switch back now lol.

Bunker, I tossed about 70 cores on yoyo earlier today. So you have backup.

I have had my 1080TI on Collatz for the last two weeks. I thought I could make more of a dent, but I'm doing 9 million a day with really no hope in securing more FB points (maybe 4 points by November). Not sure if this is the best place anymore... :(

Wait till the team jumps on it as a whole. I think I can do around 15 to 20m PPD on the project with all my GPUs and Phoenicis can do like 60m PPD with his setup.

I think I could probably hit ~30 million PPD on Collatz.

If I go for 3 more months it'll be my first project to 1 billion points.

It was my first (and only, so far) project to 1 billion points. It could be my first to 2 billion.

Last year phoenicis and I hit the project hard for a solid month towards the end. We secured 1st place with 6 billion points. That would put us in 2nd this year.

If the whole team focuses on it towards the end we might be able to take 1st which is currently 22 billion.

We are making good progress with PG PPS tasks. XSUSA is slowing down or bunkering to deceive us?

I dunno. They did 21M yesterday so on the last update if they're not around 21M then they're doing something fishy.

Incase anyone else hasn't noticed we are making good progress in the following projects.

yoyo@home we are gaining on XS until they get some more people on it
Amicable Numbers atp1916 is single handily kicking ass there.
PrimeGrid we should be able to recover another position soon at our current rate.
Milkyway@home we are planning on hitting this project very soon. I am waiting for a few AMD based GPUs to be delivered and we should be able to hit this by the end of the month.

Not sure about the others, but I don't get tagged notifications in this forum. I just happened to check it.

6pm EST.

I just edited all my BOINC instances to allow GPU, should it be a GPU project.

Do any of the projects left on the list here have very poor work availability, where we should download them now just in the off chance it does get chosen?

I got no notification from being tagged. Maybe a PM with all those names would be better.

I don't know about all of them, but I do know these projects are slim on work.

Acoustics@home
DrugDiscovery@home
GPUGrid
SRBase
the dDM-Project
POGS (doesnt exist anymore)
XASONS for COD
yafu

These projects have plenty of work all the time it seems
CSG
COllatz
Einstein@home
Milkyway@home
Numberfields@home
PrimeGrid

The others I am not sure about.

Wanless Mersenne +2 is a Linux only project. I've never had issue getting work, but it's never been chosen as a sprint/challenge so no idea how it will handle under the load.

Pretty sure GPUGrid limits tasks per unit as well. I know that if I have one in progress and 1 waiting it tells me I cannot have anymore. I have hit the limit of tasks in progress.

Well it's most likely going to be a CPU project since there are more CPU projects than GPU ones.

That's correct. GPUGrid you simply can't bunker. They limit the tasks heavily.

POGS being chosen as the Sprint would not surprise me at all.

We are definitely due for a GPU project.

I'm hoping it is PrimeGrid.

Yeah Primegrid wouldn't be a bad choice. Seeing as how our resident GPU all-star atp1916 can do around 30M PPD on Primegrid with his army I think we might be okay with it.

Then there is zero chance they would choose it. Any of these projects completely down? I bet they will pick that one.

Anything I should know before attacing to yoyo? Still need the [H] added to your name? Which tasks to select? Is this a good bunkering project? Etc.

Yes you should know these things.
No, you don't need to attach [H] anymore.
ECM give the best points, but they get grabbed up quickly. So try to get those if you can. Look on the status page to see if any is available. http://www.rechenkraft.net/yoyo/server_status.php
It can be a good one if you can get tasks. The tasks normally take a while, too. So grabbing a few will still probably last at least a day. Get as many as you can though.

We're in the Slack channel also by the way.

I assume it would be best if I get on Yoyo for the sprint and back on Seti for the Wow! event after the sprint?

Yes, please jump on the Sprint right now. As soon as possible. Try to grab as much ECM work as you possibly can. Then bunker like crazy if you know how.

Done. I now have 142 CPU threads crunching Yoyo ECM tasks through the weekend.

Is it possible to bunker without completely stopping all BOINC network traffic? I don't want to stop PrimeGrid from getting new tasks. I imagine I can just block Yoyo's IP in my router? I run OPNSense on a dedicated Xeon-D box (pretty cool little SuperMicro SuperServer 1U device), so this is easy to do. Will try that once my caches are full.

Yes, block it at the router level. That's what I do.

The IP is 78.47.191.249.

The web site will not load and youll know its working.
