System instability after removing second GPU

Just wondering if anyone has seen something like this before as this seems kinda weird to me. Sig Rig for the hardware. I pulled my second 970 out and gave it to my kid since he's gaming a lot more than I am lately. Immediately after pulling it my computer started randomly shutting down. I'm seeing wmiprsve is crashing at the time of the shut down, but I don't think this is a software issue. Yesterday the pc would turn on for 1/2 a second then shut back down when turning it on. I even set the ram and CPU back to stock settings to see if I had messed something up there.

So has anyone ran into the issue where going from SLI to single GPU caused a hardware instability issue? This is a new one.

Did you disable SLI before you removed the card? And did you go back in and remove the second GPU from any assignments (like PhysX dedication)?

DDU'd the system, still crashed on me. Pulled it apart, reseated everything and re-tightened screwes, checked all connectors, etc. Probably should have done this first. I think I may have had a loose plug on the PSU that could be a culprit. Not sure if it's safe yet - will have to run it for another day or so. Sometimes just need to remember to "Keep It Simple, Stupid!"

It could just have been a case of when you were disconnecting cables or pulling the card, it could have slightly unseated the other card or loosened a connection. Hopefully that is the case and everything else is good.

Now you need to run BOINC for [H]s 3 day sprint contest. Good 3 day burn in test will ensure system stability.
