Facebook isn't seeing any real changes in user behavior after the privacy uproar began, according to the Facebook VP of global marketing solutions, She also stated the company is expecting to continue making the big bucks with its current business model and stricter privacy laws shouldn't have any effect either. The bottom line is users seem just fine with how things are and the latest kerfuffle is just kabuki theater as far as Facebook is concerned. Until the bottom line is hurting nothing is really going to change.

...Facebook users, for the most part, haven't changed their privacy settings despite the uproar against Facebook. "We have not seen wild changes in behavior with people saying I'm not going to share any data with Facebook anymore," Carolyn Everson, Facebook VP of global marketing solutions, said to the Wall Street Journal CEO Council this week.

I believe that Facebook is more concerned about it than they lead on and, even though I'm not terribly optimistic, I believe that there's a good chance that people will become more conscious about what and how they share information.

The last time some article was released saying how toxic Facebook is, this showed up when I logged in:

I got a good kick out of it because it was kinda like if someone told your friend their haircut was ugly and then your friend turned to you asking if that was true.

Did you select "strongly disagree"; and if so, what happened afterwards?

Well, should you wish to change any of YOUR own settings, I can tell you they are so obtuse, well hidden, and even the so called Help instructions, are either wrong, out of date, or designed to mislead you, so there appears to be little, or no, way to prevent Facebook from hiding, editing, or deleting, You Posts, at ant time, or in any way, which they choice to DO!
I have, of course, filed an FCC user Complaint against Facebook, but they will most likely "Sweep it Under the Rug" too?

I seem to remember companies like MySpace also thinking that their business model was just fine, right before the business went off the cliff.

Well, they DIDN'T say they saw no change in behavior, they said they didn't see people changing their settings. Do you see them just not logging in? That seems to be carefully avoided in the quoted statement. And would come under a behavior change.

They do say they expect minimal impact to their revenue which would imply they aren't seein a bunch of users flee, but they have lied to their advertisers in the past too. Not being able to serve ads to idles accounts won't be a thing reflected in revenues until next quarter at least.

The suspicion and rumors that Facebook has been using and selling its users' information isn't new and has been around for many years.

The recent news just makes it official now.

Part of the reason why my Facebook profile is still around is because I run my business profile through it.

One day I’ll delete both.

Of course they haven't changed their settings. They don't care about their personal data until it gets used against them. It's the same thing with backups, they don't think about them until their hard drive crashes. People are stupid and nothing is going to change that.

When there was a level playing field and the competition was a trash fire, sure. A ten person team could develop something to take over at that time. However, a ten man team of even the most beloved white-hat hackers can't compete with an entrenched incumbant. Why not? Well, go ahead and move your small business marketing strategy from Facebook to the new competitor and see how many potential customers from the common pool migrate with you. I bet most of them don't give a shit about all this "basic rights" and "privacy" non-sense and just want the level of convenience that Facebook continues to provide.

Faceplant users haven't changed their policies because Faceplant hasn't allowed any of the news about their data breaches onto the users' feeds!

Not sure how freddy krueger didnt make it into the headline (or how the heck he ended up in the picture lol)
