While the current form factor likely leaves something to be desired, the company Leap Motion is moving into open source territory with its Project North Star. The design is sporting 1600x1400 per eye resolution with over a 100 degree field of view. Hmmm, an interesting concept to say the least. Hope this works out better than Cadillac's NorthStar System. Thanks cageymaru.

“We ended up with something roughly the size of a virtual reality headset. In whole it has fewer parts and preserves most of our natural field of view. The combination of the open air design and the transparency generally made it feel immediately more comfortable than virtual reality systems (which was actually a bit surprising to everyone who used it),”

Leap Motion says they have a few tweaks left to do before open-sourcing the Project North Star design next week, including “room for enclosed sensors and electronics, better cable management, cleaner ergonomics and better curves […] and support for off the shelf head-gear mounting systems.”

lol the size of that headset!
They truly are Cybermen!

It does look ridiculous, but hey that might be in style by the time it's affordable along with affordable GPUs that can utilize it effectively.

I also winced when I seen "North Star" in the title out of natural reaction. I mean you don't name something the Titantic even if it's not a ship.

That short little augmented reality demo makes it look like this could be really cool.. the floating buttons on the edge of his hand..

They could make an augmented VR game... where you hold vr weapons, and its you and your friends just running around wherever, playing whatever gametype. Virtual Flags captured, king of the hill, push the payload, etc.. where all the ingame weapons/objectives are virtual... that could be really cool. Would be a good training tool for military as well.

Perhaps you were trying to refer to the CUE system? The Northstar engine is pretty highly regarded.
