Wasabi Mango UHD400 40" 4k Display

How do you guys "turn off" your monitors at night or when you are not going to use it for a while? Do you just leave it on standy (the red light flashing) or do you turn it off via the remote?(although I'm not sure if that's really turning it off because since when can you fully turn off a screen via remote?)

^ I push the power button on the monitor
Lol I totally forgot about those buttons on the bottom of the monitor. Oops lol. They aren't really easily accesible without moving my center speaker out of the way.

Does the remote fully turn off the monitor though, the same as the button would?

I'm running a hackintosh that doesnt like its screen being turned off and on, From memory the remote will put the screen into sleep (red led diode) whereas the power button on the screen will leave no lights on indicating the panel is off.

The only way to determine if there is vampire power draw is with a line meter.

What are you trying to achieve: savings of power or prolongation the backlight life

Hi every one. I'm new to this forum and I have to say that this thread is really useful. Thank you very much!

This monitor seems to be very interesting but I’m not 100% convinced yet. Here in Europe I can get a Iiyama X4071UHSU-B1 for only 565 € on amazon. Do you think I should grab that one or better go for the WasabiMango since they seem to have a better panel and the freesync option?

Also:

Did you have to pay the custom fees? Did anyone shipped any Korean monitor to Europe?

Personally I use a geforce 980ti so the free sync stuff I have not tested as of yet, but the panels in the wasabi mango are fairly decent. My old monitor was a 27" HP ZR27w 1440p IPS screen and I would say it is on par or even better with some calibration in terms of IQ. That being said I think it is really a matter of preference but if you are doing text work then make sure to get a 4:4:4 panel or you will have some troubles. If you have not already you might want to take a read of this article: http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/monitors/90008-iiyama-prolite-x4071uhsu-b1/

I have not been able to track much down in terms of technical details but this does look like a mva panel vs the sva of the wasabi so there are some differences int he way it will behave.

Yup, ordered one to Latvia, got full custom fees (21% here).
As for quality, it nowhere near as good as my old Dell U2713HM, even with calibration. So if you do any graphical work, I'd stay clear. Also has PWM, even though is advertised as flicker-free.
So even though I'm still using it (too lazy to look for buyers), I can't recommend it. And to my knowledge there are no non-korean 40+ panels available in EU that are worth getting. All have something bad, even the overly expensive Dell 43.
So it's either 34 ultrawides, TVs (not a lot of info on panels or input lag for EU models there), or risking with Koreans.

I started to get this issue when it comes to powering on this monitor:

This never happened til recently and the issue is starting to become more frequent.

I have contacted accessorieswhole whom I purchased this monitor from. I trust that the seller will send me a replacement AD board.

Speaking of which, would anyone be interested in my full review? I have used this monitor for about three months and my impressions/thoughts have changed from my initial experience/mini review I did awhile back (1st of August). I also did promise posting new calibration files, but I have been quite busy with real life, I never got around to posting those new recalibrated files.

I got the uhd400 and when I connect to my macbook air , I dont have the 4k resolutions as options in display settings, just shows 1080p as max resolution. I even used the option+click on the scale button but it only displayed additional resolutions lower than 1080p, any ideas ?

I would be interested in your full review and new updated calibrated files. I have been using your original calibrated files and like the results. I too have had the monitor act up like you posted above but it rarely happens. I am able to resolve the problem by turning it off and back on.

I will do the review once I get the new AD board, AccessoriesWhole told me to pay them $60 USD for a replacement board and I'm still waiting on them to ship it out to me (and I have to return my old AD board as well, but apparently they will refund the $60 USD, but shipping costs is gonna cost around ~$35 USD anyhow). It has been about 10 days now and no update from the seller. Looks like I will have to follow up with the seller, as I have received no updates of shipping yet.

The distortions seems to be a normal thing then? I asked another forum and it seems that other people also get it. Though, I'm unsure why it started occurring for me more recently compared to the first 2.5 months. I wonder if it's due to the hardware going faulty or just a firmware bug that I'm starting to encounter... I really hope I didn't blow out another $60 USD for something I didn't need.

Also, my PC which the monitor that is plugged in is dead, most likely one of the RAM sticks again, I have been getting so much issues with these Crucial DDR3 8GB 1600MHz sticks and I have RMA'd 3 (2 DOA and 1 doesn't run @ 1600MHz) of them and now it's acting up again. I did a quick troubleshoot and when I removed one of the faulty RAM sticks my PC happily booted again. I think I may have to purchase 32GB of RAM again from a different manufacturer as these RAM sticks are unreliable.

I will have some free time during the Christmas/New Year Break, so I hope to be able to replace my AD board and then do my final review of this monitor. It is most likely going to be a less favorable review compared to my initial impressions, as I noticed a lot of issues/quarks after using it for 3 months which I will go into detail in the final review.

Anyhow, I will keep you guys informed about how the AD board situation in the next post.

Thanks Wave, I'm looking forward to your review. If you have some time send those new calibrated files too. One thing I have noticed with my monitor is if I accidently bump the DisplayPort cable the screen temporarily blanks out and then comes back on. I'm using the DisplayPort cable that came with the monitor. I'm a little concerned about that and have recently bought a new DisplayPort cable in hopes to resolve the problem. I should get it mid week and report back on the results.

Don't use the junk cable it came with. After I read reviews I just ordered a decent cable off amazon and never opened the one that came with it.

Thank you so much Wave. I'll be waiting for your review.

Update: Replacing the supplied DisplayPort cable with a new one has fixed the temporary blanking of the screen if bumping up against it.

I don't think I will be doing the final review anytime this month. As I still have not received any confirmation of shipping for my AD board from AccessoriesWhole, last I heard from them was 2.5 weeks ago about them waiting for shipment of a replacement AD board from Wasabi Mango.

jmilcher & Sir_David - The Display cable that came with the monitor is way too short anyhow. Especially if you have a height adjustable table like mines, but I did initially use the cable that came with it. It worked fine out of the box and I didn't experience any issues. I guess QC on the cable is not consistent.

Good news! I got my AD board today. Hopefully I will have time to install it around New Years, busy with family and other stuff.

Thanks to everybody on this list for all the details about this monitor. You gave me the confidence to order one myself and the first week with it has been great.

I bought it from 7daystrading through Amazon. Just the regular version. Paid $35 for a 4 year extended warranty. Also, bought an X-Lent thunderbolt/DP cable.

Hooked it up to a MacBook Pro (mid 2015, intel 5200 graphics) with the X-Lent cable, and both sides indicated 4k/60fps right off the bat. Scaled the display on the Mac to the smallest characters and terminals look just as good as on my 27" thunderbolt. The difference is overall size, though, is amazing. I now use spectacle to split the screen into thrids vertically - terminal, editor, browser. In just a third width, I get good line length in all apps and the vertical is spectacular. Web pages that I used to have to page up and down are now fully displayed.

I don't particularly care about color, so no comment there. I haven't noticed any dead pixels, either.

Figured it might be time to return for a quick review, since I've had it for quite a few months.

Overall experience with the monitor has been pleasant. It makes for a good 1080p resolution gaming monitor (even pixel scaling that way). For general desktop work, like browsing, documents, excel, and such it'll be good. Works good for 3D modeling & programming because of the workspace.

Now, the not so good stuff. The monitor sits at about a DPI of 110. If you don't use DPI scaling, you have to have it closer to you (even with my good eyesight and a liking of small text). That'll require I turn my head a lot, it also sucks for graphic work because the closer you are, the more color-shifting you see because of the panel type (so a solid background will appear as a gradient). That was unusable for the graphic work I do, so I had to move my desk back (mounted to a wall). This posed a second issue, I could no longer read the text and had to set the DPI at 125%. Unfortunately, Photoshop only does 100% or 200% for the UI.

TLDR; Good monitor for gaming and general use. Not so good for graphic work because of panel type. Monitor size puts it in a difficult spot of possibly needing DPI scaling.

Issues I've had/solved.

- Big screen full of garbage (see what has been posted above by WaveZero).

Fixed by turning off monitor and back on.

- I've had it start to flicker/change tint/ color grade when the color on the screen changes. E.g. if in Photoshop and I make a large document (not filling the screen). Put a green color, and then put a red color, the entire monitor would tint. It survived reboots.

I fixed this by disabling FreeSync and reenabling it.

- Color calibration (via Windows) using an iProfile device is lost after sleep mode. Only comes back after reboot.

Haven't fixed the issue, but a workaround is that I found a color-profile switcher utility that allows me to toggle to another profile and back again quickly.

Additionally, I used my Xrite DisplayPro to manually adjust the RGB/bright/contrast on the monitor without changing the windows color profile. This basic profile is what I usually use and I only switch to the color-profile (the one Windows loses on sleep) when doing work that needs some color accuracy.

Check page 4 post 125 from Spidey329.
Absolutely. Let me add one thing to save somebody else a few unpleasant minutes thinking that they may have fried their monitor: If you experience terrible false color and otherwise screwed-up settings as well as menu hangs, do a factory reset of settings after the firmware upgrade.

This was sortof asked before, but has anyone directly compared this LCD with the samsung un40k6290 or the 6300 (i think they are the same).. i have the 6290, tweaked it as best i can and its not bad at all.. maybe not quite as sharp for some reason as my Vizio M70-c1 in terms of white background with text.. colors are better on the samsung..

I'm debating to grab the Wasabi uhd400 or maybe go for the AOC VA C4008VU8 40" curved 10bit 60hz lcd monitor (would paying the extra $200-$400 for either the wasabi or the aoc be justified.. would there be that much of a benefit)?

I dont notice any ghosting or movement/contrast issues so far with the Samsung TV..

I do primarily flight sims on this rig, as well as some regular gaming, such as Star Citizen (which i think looks good on the Samsung).. despite not seeing ghosting, would these LCD monitors with low response rates somehow make motion even better?

I use nvidia, so freesync doesnt help here.. and most of the titles I do, i seem to be able to turn vsync off without tearing and the fps are never much above 60 fps anyway at higher resolutions (1080 ftw hybrid)

For what it is worth, the Wasabi UHD 430 does support 10-bit color, at least on Displayport connected to a NVidia Geforce card. It does not support real refresh higher than 60 Hz even at 1080p; the signal is accepted at 120 Hz, but the display is actually 60 Hz.

As for image quality, I have not run any objective tests, but in my subjective experience, it is comparable to what was a reference monitor four years ago, the Dell U3011, my previous monitor. Please no flames on subjective disagreement.

WaveZero - Any update on the replacement AD board?

I still would like to see your full review and the new calibrated files.

For the most part I am enjoying this monitor.

Run cleartype tuner if you haven't already.

If you're happy with motion clarity / aren't bothered by ghosting on the Samsung there is no upgrade below ~$900 for a 49" 8500 series for you. The other displays you're considering will be money thrown away, pure and simple.

Recently I decided to calibrate my UHD400 with a colorimeter. I had been using WaveZero's calibrated files which were pretty good. Every monitor is different so I pondered the idea of calibrating the UHD400 myself in hopes to get even better results and boy did I ever. I purchased the X-Rite i1 Display Pro and did the calibration. I did not use the software that comes with X-Rite. I used DisplayCal just as WaveZero did. Afterwards I was taken back how much the colors popped out. I did not expect the results to be this good but this has brought life back into this monitor. I was on the fence about buying a new 4K monitor, specifically the LG 43UD79-B but to be honest I am more than happy with this monitor now. Looks amazing after the calibration. If anyone is interested I have provided the calibration files along with the menu settings I used on the UHD400 monitor. I can only recommend using these calibration files with the Wasabi Mango UHD400 monitor and even then your results may not be as good as mine unless you do the calibration yourself.

Monitor settings:
Brightness: 100
Contrast: 75
Saturation: 60
Hue: 50
Gamma: 2.2
Aspect Ratio: 1:1
DCR: Off
Color Bypass: Off
Picture Bypass: Off
Noise Reduction: Off
Super Resolution: Off
Color Temperature: User
Red: 98
Green: 76
Blue: 64
Response Time: Off
Freesync: Off

Thanks man, used your settings and mine looks noticeably better as well!

Nice! I'm still amazed at the image quality and how colors pop after the calibration. It's too bad this monitor isn't available anymore. It's not a perfect monitor but the pros outweigh the cons.

I would say I use it daily and pretty great, but there is a tad amount of burn in. Maybe the new 4k Samsung panels might be better with hdr in the same price bracket.

I bought a MU6300 on sale this past week to try out, it's not significantly better than the UHD400 I've had. Input lag is a bit worse than the 2017 Samsungs, blacks aren't quite as good either.

Have one of these monitors for sale if anyone is looking for a deal on one.

Got a great price on a Sony XBR-43X800E. Thinking about replacing my UHD400 purely because of it's extra features and hoping it's a better image as well. I'll probably just end up keeping both for my desktop, who am I kidding :ROFLMAO:

I worried about how hot it would get around the logo, but no harm has ever come from it. Lowering the brightness just a bit helped a lot with the heat.
