The premiere trailer for The Last of Us Part II debuted at PGW 2017 yesterday to much speculation as to who the characters were, but that has now escalated to something else entirely. Sony’s Jim Ryan has responded to accusations that it features unnecessarily graphic and disturbing depictions of violence.

“The Last of Us obviously is a game made by adults to be played by adults. I should never prejudge this but it will probably be rated ’18’, I think it’s fair to say. And there’s that market for those people who like that sort of game. Adults who like that sort of game. And I think we cater for that, and at the other end of the spectrum there was Concrete Genie, which my 8-year-old decided was the game she would like to play very much."

You wanna know what my problem was with that video?

1. Why isn't the girl who was strung up by the rope choking and dead?
2. Hammer to the forearm causing the bone to break, that gotta hurt like a motha......yet she shrugs it off at the end.

Is it weird that The Last of Us is one of the only reasons I've ever considered getting a late gen console? Is it weird that my curiosity about the game has almost actually made me justify spending $400 to play a single game?

I got PSNow on PC and binged a wack load of PS3 exclusives. Look forward to doing the same with PS4 some time down the road.

It's labeled as '18' so if one really cares about what their kids play, there you go.
I personally like ultra violence in games, because I can tell it's a game. I'm harming a health counter somewhere in memory, and even those memory cells don't much care.

Last of Us was pretty brutal at certain points. It's all about survival and human instinct. Story pulls me in to a game more so than anything else, but LoU was really well rounded. I've always thought about doing another play-through especially on the PS4 Pro w/ HDR/4K. Bet it looks amazeballs.

1. She was choking a bit when they first strung her up. Dying by that kind of hanging can take time, unlike traditional execution style hanging where the idea is to snap the neck so death is instant. Later on in the trailer she was using the person who's head she was crushing as leverage to hold herself up until the other girls cut her down.
2. Adrenaline. She's not shrugging it off as it happens but as soon as the arrow hits she starts fighting back. Once that wears off she's going to feel every bit of that pain.

1. Takes a long time to be killed by hanging from suspension (no drop). Reports of 10 to 20 minutes before a person dies from strangulation.
2. Adrenaline maybe?

there sure are a lot of "us" to be the last.

it's like the last man on earth plus 50 other people.

just saying.

Nope, I got a PS4, then a PS4 Pro pretty much just for Naughty Dog games and a couple other exclusives. Definitely worth it, as those exclusives are better than anything I've played on PC as far as single-player story based games go. I'm definitely looking forward to Horizon's DLC coming out next week at the moment. I've put about 150 hours into the main game.

Not on PC, no interest. Trailer looks great, but not going to go console for any title. :cautious:

Your loss; it's sad that people rule out the best games because of some blind platform devotion. I might understand if you only like FPS or RTS games, so you stick to PC. But if you actually like games in general, then restricting yourself to any one or two platforms causes you to miss out on a lot of the best experiences games have to offer.

Anyways, having been a huge fan of TLOU (I've played through it a few times on PS3 and again remastered on PS4), I'm super pumped for this sequel. From what I've been gathering about this trailer, that women hanging in the trailer seemed to be Ellie's mom. There's definitely a likeness between them and the other women alludes to her being pregnant with the knife at her stomach and what she says to her. So it seems TLOU part 2 will be jumping around a bit in terms of time line, which sounds great to me.

Then don't play the damn game. Yes, the trailer was brutal. So will the game.

Watch some scary movies. Watch some violent movies. Why are people thinking video games are still for kids?

Last of Us is a serious must play. It was one of the reasons why I bought the PS4 (that, and Uncharted). Very much worth it. I am looking forward to buying this new one. It's one that I'll probably pre-order, too. I can guarantee I won't be disappointed.

She sounded like Ellie too.

I agree. I will probably wait until the PS4 goes on sale, and then pick one up especially for this title. The first one was a fantastic story and experience.

I was offended by the lack of gameplay. I still don't understand the point of trailers for games. I mean I know they're supposed to showcase the game, but if it's not the final product that I'll actually be playing then it's the same as a press release really. I am as excited to play it after watching that video as I was when they first announced it, which is very.

It is trying to give you tidbits of the story. Games like this are very story driven. I can understand the desire to put this style out vs. a game play video. When it's closer to release, I'm sure we'll see a lot more game play.

CoD? Yea, I hate that. It's all game play and no (or very little) story.

My issue would be that I despise using gamepads for first/third person games, just find them too slow for movement. I prefer keyboard and mouse. That and I am spoiled by my 144hz monitor and sub 60 fps bothers me as well. It's not that I am unwilling to buy a console but I am unwilling to play the game the way they want me to.

This is my biggest problem with consoles. I love them and always have. But, playing on PC and getting spoiled with the mouse/keyboard and then going to console with the controller - I SUCK. I can kick ass with FPS's on the PC. I'm not that bad. Go to the console, and I'm proud of my 2 kills and 35 deaths. :D It's a whole different ballgame with the different controls. It takes a while to get used to it. It's also shitty going from Xbox to PS4 to PC to Sega to PS4, etc.etc... What button does what?!

I can somewhat get that, as I love playing PC games maxed out at 60+ fps as well, but ultimately that's still a petty reason to not play these other amazing games.

Horizon (and most other Sony published exclusives) on PS4 runs at 30 FPS and it's amazing how smooth it plays still, because there's 0 frame pacing issues and it's absolutely locked at 30 fps at all times, so it feels much smoother than it is. I know that may sound like hyperbole, but if you've actually played it, I know you'd see for yourself.

These games don't require max precision to navigate obstacles or take down enemies (most of the time) either, so I have had no issues going from kb&m to a controller. In fact, if I'm not playing a FPS or RTS game on my PC, I will typically hook up a controller to play games on my PC as well just for the added comfort.

I never had this problem. A fun game is a fun game, that's all that should matter. I never had any issue going back and forth from consoles to PC. I’ve been this way since playing Super Mario to Kings Quest 1.

Lucky. When it comes to FPS's, it takes me a while to get used to the slower movement on the console vs. the PC. Platformers, RPG's and such - no problem at all. Only FPS's, as they require the speed and precision of the mouse/KB. The consoles make up for it with easier aiming, etc. that when you go back to PC you have to compensate for. So, with the console, I'm trying to aim just right and be perfect. You don't really have to be, it's just point and shoot.

Weaksauce. I honestly expected stomachs being slowly opened, intestines pulled out like ropes. Thought the arms were coming off, either with a blade or being pulled off, not just getting hammered and broken. I am disappoint.

Fuck these people, being offended does not make you or your ideology sacred.

Complainers need to get it into their thick heads... call it the 'Negan Effect' if you will.... people are utterly sick of classic, mustache twirling, monologing villains who are anything but... getting someone to feel for the characters, and hate the bad guys needs more then tying the heroine to a tree and stealing a kiss. Evil is brutal, vicious, cruel, and utterly without remorse or hesitation. Monsters don't give warning or talk about what they are going to do.. they just DO it, and couldn't give a flying flaming shit how anybody feels about it. You want a gamer to be immersed in the story.. stop insulting them with 1.5 dimensional characters and mad-libs fill in the blanks plots.

Wait.. are we talking about games or movies.... ? Nurse says it's time for my meds....

Fuck em. I hope they don't have into these snowflakes. I don't see them doing it. I hope GoW 4 is glorious with it's violence. Honestly I am surprised there isn't as much out rage nowadays about games. MK and night trap got so much out rage back in the 90s. They are so tamed compare to what we have now. Back when GTA 3 came out and my sister was so out rage when her son showed her how to pick up a prostitute and then killed her afterwards. It was so funny how offended she was. I smacked the shit out of him for just showing her. Think he was like 8 or so.

I expect there will be some really violent sense in the game based off the trailer. They don't want to blow their load when the game is still at least 8 months out.

Fucking hell. I don't know if I'll be able to hold out on this. I was barely able to push trough the first due to the stupid console controls. I broke two dualshocks while doing it and still enjoyed it.

And finally someone dares to depict a more muscular female character. About damn time. Finally I can believe and enjoy when she kicks ass, instead of thinking about suspension of disbelief.

Will they make her squirt out a baby like every lead on TV. Ugh... so stupid.

I hope this game avoid the terrible stealth sequences from the first game.
