Hey folks, Getting my vintage 2001 PC together. I'm going to be installing a RAID 0 on two 20.1GB WD Hard Drives using a Promise Fasttrak 100 card. I'm using an IDE interface. Which end goes into the drives and which end goes into the RAID Card, the blue or the black?

My question is, do I need to install Windows first in order to get the card working with the proper drivers? Or can I simply plug the drives in to the RAID Card, boot the system & install Windows after I've set up the Array in the BIOS?

I've never set up a RAID array before. Any help would be appreciated.

Yeah as for the rest, I remember using one of the Promise IDE133 cards to upgrade a IDE100 board and I had to install the card bare, then put the drivers on, reboot then shutdown and plug the drive into the card. Then reboot.

if I remember right to get windows booting off it you need to set the bios to boot from the add in card, set up the array in the cards config(cntrl-F1 or whatever it shows during boot) then feed windows the boot /setup drivers via F8 when windows setup starts. but it has been 15yrs since I touched a promise card so don't quote me on it...

Lol yeah a lot of this now goes into the "it has been 15yrs since I touched a (insert old obsolete tech item here) so don't quote me on it..." realm.

if he has a floppy he can press f6 to add drivers to the installation.

unless he isn't using xp

I miss my fasttrak 100 and sx4000! Like the gentleman above said f6 to install drivers from floppy. I used 2 20gig Hitachi desk(death)stars on my fasttrak 100 and 40gig drives on my SX4000. Fun times!

I don't have a floppy, I'll mess around and see what I can figure out, thank your for your input, will keep you updated :)

I still have a non raid version converted to the fasttrack 100 by simply flashing it and soldering a resister.

I know, I should be tarred & feathered. I just don't have one on hand. I may decide to get one if I can find a cheap one.

look for something like a floppy drive emulator.

way better since floppy disks aren't super reliable.
