Hello,

I tried to build a Raid1 (software) with windows 7 disk manager but I did not get the expected result. I could use a little help.

Both hard drives are strictly the same. I have two partitions on Disk 2 : partition "I" for my software and partition "J" for my documents. I right clicked on partition "I" of disk 2 to "create mirror disk" on disk one. Disk one is therefore supposed to be the mirror disk, however the second partition (J) was not mirrored. When I right click on partition J "create mirror disk" is grayed out.

How should I proceed to mirror both partitions of the same hard drive?

Thank you in advance for your kind replies.

The easiest way is to configure raid in bios/UEFI. That way the two drives are seen as the correct logical drives by the OS.

It's been a while since I've played with software mirroring, but try shrinking the size of the disk partition on disk 2 (J: drive in your image) slightly.
The last comment in this thread seems to referring to the same problem that you are having (at a guess). There may also be a slight size difference between your disks at the hardware level, that is contributing to the problem (even with two disks that are identical).
See if reducing the size slightly of the source partition resolves your problem.

When I have created Windows software raid drives in the past I made sure the disk were unused at the time of creation. I don't know if you have data on them but could you try deleting the partitions on both drives, then right click on 1 of the drives to create the raid group? Once that is done you can shrink it down and create a second volume.

BulletDust : Hardware Raid is not what I had in mind but thank you anyway for your reply.

muz_j and bigdogchris : again, thank you very much for your replies. I will look it up and keep you informed of my progress (or lack of progress).
