Hey guys,

Ive been out of the game since I built the system in my sig below. I bought all that stuff pretty much day 1 when it was released and haven't upgraded since.

I play @ 1920x1080 so even until now, I have not played a game at ultra @ 1920x1080 that has stuttered or made me lower my settings. Its all been super smooth, above 60fps, totally enjoyable. I'm talking BF1 / Overwatch / whatever, you name it. UNTIL I started played Player Unknown's Battlegrounds. I don't know if its the game not being optimized at all or just my system not keeping up anymore. It runs really poorly on my setup. Obviously I'm not gonna build or upgrade for just this game but its just a thought.

Being a 4770k @ 4.4ghz with 16gigs of ram, GTX780 and an ssd as my core, would you upgrade to, lets say, an i7-7700k OR would you just pick up a 980Ti and call it a day with the same processor.

Any input is appreciated~!

You can use afterburner to monitor CPU and GPU usage in game. Then you can pinpoint which one is the bottleneck.

Cpu its fine.. upgrade your GPU.. anything recent certainly will slaught your current GTX 780.. go with a GTX 1080 and forget about upgrade for another couple of years.

Will try this

I was thinking about it but I'm going to hold off on something as expensive as the 1080Ti until I do another full build. $800 for a card now just doesn't make sense even though its probably the best card in ages. I figured I can pick up a used, like new 980Ti on here for $300 and that would totally be worth the money and upgrade over the 780 right ?

No point in upgrading from an i7-4770K. But there is a huge difference between a 980 Ti 6GB and a 780 3GB.

The newest PC games like PUBG with their textures are starting to surpass the 3GB VRAM limit very fast and I suspect the VRAM of your card is a bottleneck, and that's probably causing all kinds of drops. I would recommend a 1060 6GB as they are good 1080p cards and require a good deal less power than the 980 Ti (250W TDP). edit: And also about $100 cheaper

Wow, that's huge. Thanks for posting that. Power consumption is no biggie for me, that wont be an issue. Wouldn't you rather go with a 980Ti > 1060 though? I mean, at any res.

Personally, no. The 980 Ti is older gen that was supposed to be for 1440p, and it's chugging a huge amount of power and running everyday, that costs money. Plus it's unnecessary for 1920x1080 res. I mean if have an extra $100-150 to burn and want to pay more in power for 5-10 extra FPS go for it. But why not get a 1070 instead?

Because were talking $300 for a 980Ti used, in like new shape vs $450+ for a 1070. Plus having the added power needed if I upgrade my monitor in the future would be great right.

Yeah that's true. I actually didn't know the 1070 was at 450. So then the 980 Ti would be a good middle ground between the 1060 and 1070. Seems good (y)

Yeah the mining craze is driving up the prices of the current cards that's why they currently cost more than they should and normally would.

I had the same question and figured I had no issue with my 3770k @ 4.5 on H110 and TUF ASUS w/ SSD 16gb etc I went from as gtx 680 to a 980ti I got from here used and it's like another world game wise. Very happy with the decision because in the end I didn't wanna rebuild everything so money and time were saved.
