Had a big storm in NoVA yesterday at around 3pm and the surge blew out my BX12 Sub :( She don't smell so fresh right now either.

Time to see how good M-Audio Tech Support is !

Such a bummer, shes a good one.

If you had to get something new I would recommend an SVS SB-1000. I would consider it an upgrade from M-Audio, personally.

I heard good things about SVS as well. They certainly have a big selction depending on how overkill you might like to go.

I've also heard good things from Rythmik audio which might give you more bang for your buck.

Well, it's out of warranty and they don't offer flat-replace refurb replacements which means it's parts + labor at a 3rd party repair shop.

Not gonna happen on a $400 sub :(

I'll take a look at those suggestions. Thanks :)

DAMMIT!

Update: The SVS won't work. I need XLR balanced outputs for my M3-6 monitors.

RCA In, Balanced XLR out. I could probably live with RCA Out.

A PB-16 ultra would be a good replacement for sure :)

I guess it fucking would LOL

SVS subs have RCA out.

In the end, I went with what I know...

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01I46H4AK/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I've had them in the past and they are pretty damned awesome. The M-Audio was a "try something different" purchase, and the monitors were M-Audio so... wth.

And it has something that most others don't. An auto power-down after 30 sec of silence. It can be defeated, of course.

The rythmik subs will add XLR to them for like a $50 charge I think.

Oh I seems I may have been too late to the party

For anyone who was looking for a cheaper sub with dual xlr ins and outs, I would at least consider the 10in. Monoprice sub. (link) If only for its feature-set. Can't speak on reliability or sound. I've heard they may have the same woofer as the M-audio variety though I could be wrong.

Sue the power company for the sub. I remember a bunch of people sued a power company in Canada due to damage from a storm.

DIY it.
You can make dual 21" sub for the price of that SVS PB-16 which will utterly shit on anything you can buy
Even the damn quad genelecs you can beat DIY.
There is no replacement for displacement when it comes to subs or engines.

Go lurk diyaudio and get some good modelling programs and play around to learn.

True. If you have space, a horn is even better. Did you see the thread of my horn loaded dual 21" setup I made for a local cinema? 130db@20hz makes you literally jump on your seats.

The cinema has been there for 60 years but this is the first time they had to put paddings to door latches and a mirror dropped from the toilet wall during an action scene.

Damn. $180 for a 200w RMS Sub, and $230 for a PAIR of 120w RMS Monitors? Sheeeeit dude. I should get that setup for the Bedroom at those prices !

The only problem is they would replace my ProMedia 2.1 set that I love, and really have no need or desire TO replace. There I go, getting all logical and shit. I guess it comes with age :)

Oh, and it would have been nice if the Sub had RCA inputs.

My homeowners would cover it but my deductible is more than the cost of the sub...

Thanks for the idea, but don't have the time or energy for such things these days. I'm pretty much in a "I need stuff that works" phase of my life :)

Fair call. You can always look at a pre-made cab or kitset cut out by local shop and a pre-made amp e.g. ep2500s etc. All you need to do is wire, fill interior, mount sub and enjoy. But fully understand you with phases like that too, best of luck whichever way you go.

I can be on my feet for about 60 seconds at a time right now. Not gonna happen, but thanks !

That's why I have nephews that know little to nothing about figuring out the parameters for speaker boxes, but can follow my directions perfectly. Muhahaha! I let one in on the secrets of audio and almost lost my little elf. Luckily I showed him some horns and no information on their secrets, so I have him back under my power!

I can barely move nowadays also; well at a snail's pace. ;)

We should race. BYOM (Bring Your Own Meds) LOL

Yeah I personally own the 5in. Monoprice studio monitors and they are pretty great, even if they were more expensive.

You can get them for really cheap right now, for $120 for the pair. And if you ever wanted to add a sub that would be another $190. Personally the 5in. Monitors put out enough bass that I never felt like I needed the sub. Good stuff though.

Oh, I forgot to mention. The power was out for SIX frickin' hours. I had to go to Home Depot and buy a Genny. I do have a 6300/9000 watt generator in the garage, but it's over 300 pounds and I can't handle moving that right now. But I have probably $4000 worth of Insulin in the fridge, so I had t do something.

Got this one:

http://www.homedepot.com/p/Ryobi-Bl...gital-Inverter-Generator-RYI2300BTA/300347426

It was EXPENSIVE but it was like the only one in town, and it's pretty damn awesome. it's only 50 pounds. It's also damn near silent, and was showing 14 hours run time on the 1 gallon tank.

I had the fridge, the entertainment system (minus the amp and sub), and a big ass fan on it and it was only showing 2 out of 10 bars on the meter.

Wow, we get insulin for free here.

Ok, The KRK 10s V2 came in today. Slid right into place and all the old cabling, including the power cord, connected right up.

I now remember why I've always preferred 10" subs over 12's or bigger. This bad boy is TIGHT !

It rattles the fucking fireplace grate 2 rooms away. I gotta show restraint with this thing or I'll have the cops at the door.

Again.

The only time I ever had cops at my door was about 10 years ago when a different KRK 10 pissed off the neighbors. They had a right . It was 2am and I had "In the digital mood" cranked up to 8 LOL

Ok, the house is back in alignment with the universe, and I can hear my Battleship guns in World Of Warships again.

Crises averted......

Hi, I've had a Rythmik E15HP for a while and it has suited my needs very well.

The KRK-10 does not extend very low, only 31hz and 117db max SPL. Are you living in an appartment building to disturb the beighbors at that volume?

The tightness of the bass does not correlate with the driver size, this is a common misconception. It's all about enclosure design and overall quality of the driver. It's much cheaper to produce a good 10" than it is to produce a good 15" or a 21".

I wish you could come to try the 21" horn loaded subs. They give 120db at 15hz and 130db at 20hz per piece. They're super tight and make things literally jump.

It's all good for me.
