Hey guys, I'm about at the end of my rope here trying to figure this out. My HTPC has been running perfectly fine for the past 4 years with a small SSD, and 3x3TB drives. I was running low on space and bought a couple of the 8TB Reds from BestBuy, shucked them, and threw them in. Now I have the SSD, 2x3TB, and 2x8TB.

After doing so, I have noticed there are periodic, what can only be described as hiccups, happening. All the input is still recorded (keyboard, mouse, etc.) it just stops for 5-10 seconds and then speeds up everything until it has caught back up to real time. The thing that is throwing me off is this is only happening while browsing online, on the desktop, or in KODI. While watching a video, playback is not effected at all.

Is there anything I can try to remedy this? Anyone have any clue as to what would cause this?

Maybe one of the 8TB drives is bad or has a bad cable? Have you run any tests on them or tried it with one of the two 8TB drives disconnected?

All the cables are the same except one that I added. That added cable was attached to one of the new 8TB drives. I unplugged that one and swapped it with a cable on a currently empty drive and through very brief testing, I think that was the problem. Guess I need to order new SATA cables.

I did run some tests before they were shucked in case I had to return one.

Just out of curiosity, how do I monitor the drives for timeouts? They actually seem to wake up and activate faster than my old 3TB drives.

check bios updates those huge drives might need some sort of update for the new huge drives my other suggestion is to see if the issue goes away without the 8tb drives

I updated the BIOS yesterday along with a bunch of other random things and I think it or something else I did fixed it. I was on it a lot yesterday with no hiccups. It also fixed not going to sleep mode after adding a 1050ti as well.

Overall, I think the BIOS update was the answer though. Thanks all.
