While that may be the case, you can't just dismiss all of these types of cases as 'retarded' grievances.

In this context, involving a San Francisco startup based around VR, the allegations seem quite believable to me. I'll use my own personal experience as a reference point: A lot of students I graduated with during my Computer Science undergrad could very easily display this type of behavior given a lot of money and some deal of 'social significance'. It was already evident in small doses in college so who am I to say that those same behaviors wouldn't be amplified ten-fold once they reached that status.

I'm not saying the allegations are true or false but at least weigh out the possibilities before outright dismissal.

Not saying I agree with sexual harassment, but does the idea of sex imply we hate women? Most of the replies I read were pointing out the same. If they wanted a conjugal visit room, so be it. Nothing in that implies a hate for women. If you think sex is inherently sexist than you have had some stuck up snobs in your life. Most of us were picking on the attack on the activity instead of the behavior.

If they had an OBGYN on site as an optional perk, would you call that sexist?

Hiring female prostitutes, asking for "submissive asian ones" when travelling, telling women to act like "mommies" and pick up after the men, including their condoms and underwear, is the equivalent to having an OBGYN on staff?

My conclusions based on the reported story, the history of similar cases the past years and the region this is based in are without merrit, but your generalization based on my comment on a specific story is top notch reasoning.

And that jab at my loneliness really stings, it completely invalidates the reality of my life situation. My bubble just burst and I realized how truly alone and hateful of all women I am.

Yup. Their idea of sexual escapades are some daffy ideas they got from Hollywood and whatever free porn sites they trawled in their younger days. They thought they could make those fantasies reality by tossing money everywhere.

I think you read something in my post that wasn't there. I was merely pointing out that some of the posts in this thread reek of misogyny, namely Meeho's posts, and some others.

Never once did I mention anything about sex being sexist. Pardon my 12 year old language here but....what drove you to that stupid idea?

I can be as much of a pig as the next guy but at some point it just becomes telling of one's personality. And in that vein, I myself clearly didn't read it as a joke. Take that as you will.

To make a point, see if you can follow the logic here:

Imagine that a lot of like minded people, such as the types that make the same type of 'joke' Meeho made, created a product. That product became the basis for a startup. That startup suddenly gets a lot of money. That startup begins to hire other like-minded 'jokers' that think that sort of humor is all in good fun. That same startup is now a mix of males and females.

Don't you see that the way some posters in this thread went about laughing this off sort of proves that maybe, just maybe, the plaintiff is on to something here? Get enough people with that kind of mentality under one roof, and running the building, and you're bound to end up with an environment described by the plaintiff. It's not a stretch by any means. This thread is a mini-proof of that.

I find it interesting the lack of any middle ground with someone like you. Either I'm a SJW or I'm not. It's all so binary...when did critical thought go out the window in favor of choosing the side that's the polar opposite of what you don't believe?

I'm truly sorry. Misogyny accusation is a great meaningful conversation starter and I've ruined it with the SJW comparison. I hope I can grow from this experience and avoid such mistakes in the future.

I remember reading that in one of the Scandinavian countries with low birth-rates, some companies were instituting paid "nooners" so employees could go bang (presumably off premises)

That's probably a better way to do something like this.

Well it mostly started in the mid-ish 90s when certain groups decided that the best way to force society to change to their way of thinking was to start the myth that women don't like sex as much as men. And because of that even talking about sex within earshot of a female was sexual harassment. And even worse if they mention a particular person (known or unknown) within hearing range of the unintended listener.

So let me clear some things up.

First. women like sex just as much as men (and some studies show they think about it even more).. So it isn't by nature sexist to talk about sex.

Two. If they had been talking about her in sexual terms than she would have a case. If she heard them talking about a co-worker or someone she doesn't know, she does in fact NOT have the right to claim sexual harassment on behalf of someone else unless they ask her to.

Three. listening in on other people's conversations is considered rude in almost every society (except maybe the spy/intelligence community).

You want critical thinking, there you go.
 
In the age of smart phones, it should be super easy to take pics / video of the hookers / kink room / post hooker detritus, etc.

Maybe that was done, I don't know but if it was, I'm surprised there are not some leaks. It wouldn't take must to crush a company like this and make them too toxic to stay in business.

This comment reminds me of the episode in South Park where all the men pretend they wouldn't do the same thing given the money and fame.
 
They need to hire several F500 upper management types to properly handle these types of affairs. These guys are clearly amateurs. Companies get away with this shit (hookers and blow) all the time, they just have the right people in the right places to control it quietly.

You would like to believe. I'm sure many of the employees and some of the management fit that description. Pretty good chance a few of these guys can work a bar and go home with who they want. Which is how they managed to get away with it as long as they did.
