Solely based on features/price, which do you believe is the better choice, why?

Thank you!

I went Taichi. Two M.2 slots meant I could go complete cable free for my drives. Backups across the network mean I didn't need a lot of platters in the desktop itself but I didn't want just one drive. The Taichi also happens to be a little bit cheaper than the ASUS board ($50 less here), and reviews have been praising it's power delivery subsystem. Asthetically I also gave the slight edge to the ASRock board (it's going in a Define S) but the ASUS is definitely good looking as well.

I can't start building until next weekend so I can only tell you why I made my choice and not how it worked out. I shall see soon.

Same here, Taichi, finally got it and its a beauty.
For me the tick was the overclocking, this is one of the best boards for Ryzen, which for me that was it. Sold :D

Thanks.

How does the sound sub system compare? They both look pretty nifty.

That is not really a good reason. Taichi disables the bottom PCI-E 2.0 x16@x4 slot when you use the second M.2 slot. So you could have bought a cheaper board and use the bottom x16@x4 slot with an M.2 PCI-E adapter.

I dont know it is a bad reason. It is certainly one factor I am looking at myself.

Yes the second M.2 is exclusive with the PCIE 2.0 X4 slot, however the onboard M.2 is a lot cleaner and more elegant than a PCIE adapter.

Using the onboard certainly looks better then an I/O cards.

With the Asus ROG in stock and the Asrock Taichi still out of stock I may well have to go the Asus direction with the Add In card. Rather have the onboard extra M.2 though.

Agreed. If there was a significantly cheaper board that I wanted more than the Taichi and the only thing holding me back was the lack of a second M.2 slot that's a fine solution. There wasn't though.

The Asus board was on my short list of options. It's also got a bunch more naitive USB ports over the ASRock if you need them. It looks like it's one of the better boards once they sorted out the shipping BIOS issues. In the end I decided to wait though...it was hard but I didn't need to upgrade RIGHT NOW despite what the voices in my head were shouting.

I'm thinking both boards should be a good choice. With Asus crosshair hero VI having some issues regarding BIOS updates (hope it is fixed some people on youtube experienced this and some other folks as well)..

One thing about Asus, they tend to be really good about the bios updates.

I tried an msi board a few generations back, turned out the hard drives I picked up were not compatible. Asus had a bios fix out before Msi admitted the problem existed. Msi got the Rma and Asus got the purchase.

The Asus Rma\warranty service is not so good.

Guess all the manufacturer's have their points.

My asus rog board arrived today. The asrock boards are still not in stock.

Still waiting fur the case and cooler though.

the asus does has better DAC and audio compare to tachi, but don't have the wifi module

I have the Asus, I'm waiting for one last part and free time to put it together. I looked at the taichi before ordering but it was not in stock anywhere.
There is more documentation on the Asus board, there's a giant thread in overclock.
I personally think the taichi is the better value if you could find it in stock. It has that $10 rebate, and I hear very little complaining of it. It gives you what you need at a good price. Good luck finding a taichi, I've yet to seen one in stock while visiting newegg.

My main/game system is always on ethernet anyways so not a biggie for me. I know this is not the same for everyone however. Be nice if the Asus board had a "Killer Nic" like some. Oh well. Intel chip-set for Ethernet, right? I am sure it works just fine.

I picked up a decent gigabit switch a while back. Gonna finally have a reason to take it out of the box. (YEAH) out of ports on the back of my router so just running me one to my desk area which will now have both my old and new computers set up. Be nice the file transfers between them will go a bit faster.

I have a box 'o new speakers to plug in to the Asus board. Nothing near audiophile grade but decent fire the under 100 price.

Good thing my Upstairs neighbor has a hearing deficit!

I wonder how much decent "good" speakers would be?

Unless you have a money tree I would not ever go there ;) .
And you would need a forest of them.

If you have a receiver back in the day creative labs used to sell a cable kit. http://support.creative.com/kb/showarticle.aspx?sid=4699 Used to sound pretty good connected to a receiver/speakers. I wouldn't be surprised that if you could source the cables you could find a receiver and speakers at a pawn shop or some good online deal.

For a C-note once in a blue moon best buy used to have the Klipsch premedia 2.1 They are pretty good for their size, ebay has some. Now they go for around $150

If you wanna roll money like you can print it, I've heard good things about the Audioengine 5+, but be ready to drop some cash.

Or you could always get a decent headset and not displease your neighbor and get great audio quality that's hard to match at the same price point by a speaker system.

I wonder when taichi will be in stock. I almost got the asus hero, but the lack of 2 M.2 and No wifi module push me toward asrock taichi

As far as I'm concerned, built-in wifi is about the most superfluous feature you can put on a motherboard. You won't use it for gaming, which is what most cutting edge, X370 overclock-capable motherboards are built for, and you can add wifi with a $20 USB thumb device. I would MUCH rather the mobo manufacturer take that $20 and put it into a better DAC for the audio, higher quality caps on the board, etc. Wifi is the last thing I want them to spend money on that would otherwise have gone to better quality/extra performance. I actually look for higher end boards that skip the Wifi, like Gigabyte X370 Gaming 5, Gaming K7 and Asus Crosshair VI specifically for this reason.

Assuming you're talking about Asus X370 Crosshair VI Hero, personally I'd go with ASRock. I've had good experience with them, Taichi is cheaper (<$200 vs $250), ASRock seems to be very committed to releasing BIOS updates, Asus on the other hand had bricked tons of their own motherboards through self update feature (beyond stupid). ROG does have more USB ports, but who really need that many? If you don't care about overclocking I'd actually seriously consider Asus Prime Pro or a "lesser" ASRock Killer SLi/Fatal1ty K4 motherboard. From what I read even B350 motherboards can overclock really really well, so extra phases on X370 top of the line motherboards are not really necessary.

However, if you really want top of the line MB with best VRM and best BIOS, Taichi is an excellent MB given its price, I'd give it preference over self-bricking Hero.

Having said that, you can get Asus Hero from newegg right now, and Taichi is still OOS.

When will there be more of these boards in stock?

BEST ANSWER: Newegg sold out the (100) mobos they received on 3-28-17 in minutes without ever notifying those of us who have been waiting since 3-2-17 on Auto Notify. There have been very limited quantities world wide. It appears that AMD didn't provide enough info. and final CPU configuration soon enough to mobo makers.

Expect a significant quantity of X370 Taichi mobos to arrive around the 18th of April. An online search might find a few still available.

Rather than continue to hope and wait I went for the Asus board.

I did look at the b350 boards as well. They only have 2 pcie lanes going to the second M.2 port and not 4 like that x370 boards with a second M.2.

I found a PCIE adapter that has 3 m.2 ports, 1 NVME and 2 SATA. If I want full PCIE 3.0 speeds I can put it in the x8 slot or if I am worried about (or notice) any kind of hit to the GPU I can put it in the X4 slot and get the same performance.

So I'm happy. Still the Taichi board would have been cool.

There is one other big-ish benefit of the Asus board. It supports both AM3 and AM4 mounting kits for coolers.

Asus does still support the old fashion normal(ish) bios update. One does not *have* to use the USB stick process. Being able to flash bios with no CPU/Ram installed is very nifty.

Don't make the mistake of thinking that the AM3 backplate is provided ;) .

He means that if your banking on reusing an old am3 cooling kit you will need to re-use the back plate that came with the cooler since the motherboard wont come with a back plate for am3.
