IIRC it was a DT.That's a solid deal. MT, DT, or SFF?
How many hard drives can one of these hold?
Quick! some of those Optiplexes from the same seller are $116. There are a number of them with i7-2600 and 8GB of RAM. I was literally just looking at desktops from that seller that were showing up at $156, but when I went to the actual item, they dropped to $116. When I refreshed the search results, they all dropped to $116. There are also some i5-3570 configs too.Just scooped this one up for $136 I've been watching that link all week and this is the best deal I've seen so far I think.
i7-2600 3.4GHz 8GB 320 GB AMD Radeon HD 6350 DVD-RW
I just found another good one:
DELL OPTIPLEX 790 MT i7-2600 3.4GHz 16GB 750GB DUAL AMD RADEON HD 5450 WIN 10 64
- $168.00
Just something to keep in mind, but there are/were some of the SFF models that the only PCIe x16 slot is directly next to PSU, so those low profile GTX 1050 Ti models won't actually fit. Then a 1/2 height card and I've got all I need for low-budget 1080p gaming.
Thanks for the heads up.Just something to keep in mind, but there are/were some of the SFF models that the only PCIe x16 slot is directly next to PSU, so those low profile GTX 1050 Ti models won't actually fit.
I don't know much about server processors but this seems tempting:
HP Z600 x2 XEON E5520 2.66GHz 4GB 1TB NVIDIA QUADRO 2000 D WINDOWS 10 HOME COA
Upon a little further investigation, it looks like perhaps the 1155 socket SFF Optiplexes (390/790/990/3010/7010/9010) have the proper PCIe x16 slot spacing to use the dual slot low profile graphics cards. Newer models (3020/7020/9020/3040/5040/7040) have it right next to where the PSU goes, making them probably incompatible. Thanks for the heads up.
Looks like here (page 33 http://downloads.dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_optiplex_desktop/optiplex-7010_owner's manual2_en-us.pdf) if I use the top PCI-e slot, it'll fit. Tight, but a fit. Good thing it doesn't have much wattage to throw around.
I personally wouldn't go back as far as the LGA 1366 socket Xeons (HP Z400/Z600/Z800 or Dell T3500/T5500/T7500). They have lots of cores, but the single core benchmarks are fairly low compared to the 1155 socket and newer i5s and i7s.I don't know much about server processors but this seems tempting:

Also I kind of want to buy that desktop with the 16GB of ram for $116 and use some of the ram to put into some of the other machines that only have 4GB but have faster processors.
Mine just arrived. One thing I didn't think of for some reason was that 8gb of ram means 4x2gb instead of 2x4gb heh. Gotta run 12gb for now I guess. Also, make sure you open it up and get rid of some of the dust. I had a huge ball of dust just hanging out near the GPU. I'll be looking for an SSD next, the HDD is OK but it sucks when you're used to SSD's
Another option to look at are the HP Z220 Desktop computers. Seem like a better case layout for larger graphics cards, and 3 HDD slots. HERES a 3rd gen i5-3570 with 4gb of RAM for $140. Worth searching for some cheap ivy bridge i7's.
Its not a standard atx psu in the hp z220 so I would make sure whatever gpu you get will work with the stock power supply.Looks like you can put a standard PSU in as well. Not bad.
I have two Z800s equipped with 2x X5675s that tear through Handbrake jobsUnless you need a lot of cores for rendering or running VMs and maybe a lot of RAM (I didn't check what the max capacity of this tower) then you should avoid this. It's a 1366 socket, a generation before Sandy Bridge (i5-2500 etc). This is not a good use of your money if you want to game.

Haters gonna hateyeah, but it's so cool when you go into task manager with HT enabled, and it shows 12 cores..
Moddiy has a $15 ATX adapter.
Good catch. Thanks! That's the the Z220 SFF, not the CMT, though.
You'd need a 20 pin to 18 pin adapter, like this one
The CMT PSU mount is close to ATX, though apparently it is a tiny bit smaller. Might take some work.
That wouldn't be a bad plex/media server. But only 2 expansion bays need something with at least 4 free ones.
Anyone else notice the squished picture in the item description?
