4k TV as monitor

so I have 2 Dell 34" 3k monitors and they work great, the pic is super crisp and the responsiveness Is fast. Well I hooked up a 4k tv( I have a 4k video card) and the pic was not nearly as sharp and when I was viewing drawings it was laggy and not as quick and responsive as the monitors? I check all graphics and resolutin setting and the resolution was set to the 4k resolution. Any ideas why this happens with the tv. I have it hooked up to my computer via hdmi as that's all tv has. Thanks.

What model TV? Could be a lot of things, e.g. you're running at 30hz, you don't have 444, your TV has excessive input lag, etc. Not all TV's can really handle monitor functionality.

Thanks so much ..any help would be great. I can't seem to change hdmi input to pc.

I have LG 43UH 6030. I went to the intel graphic control panel and the tv is set to 4096x2160 resolution and 30p Hz. Can't go higher than that.

Does this refresh rate affect lag? The monitors let me set the refresh at 59p Hz but tv can't be set past 30.

If it does are there tv's that have higher refresh rates? Thank

Wow just looked at specs for tv and it says 120Hz. Why comp graphic only lets me select up to 30Hz.!!??

Sorry guys to keep posting. So use hdmi to display cable and can only get 30Hz with 4k resolution but if I go to 1280 resolution it lets me choose 60hz but pic is terrible.

Enable UHD Deep color in general settings. Change input icon of the port the PC is plugged into in input selector to PC. This should let you select 3840x2160 (not 4096) and 60HZ with 444, if the 6030 supports it. Ensure you also have an HDMI cable capable of 18gbs and ideally under 15ft long.

The rtings.com review of the UH6100 says that model has 70ms lag at 444 in 4k, which is very bad, so you may want to consider abandoning full chroma if you want to play any games. I would imagine the 6030 has similar lag. Check out the rtings review for more info on optimal settings.

Note that the cheap LGs are not real 4K, they are 1920x2160 RGBW. So even with the correct settings, it's going to look bad.

Also I was able to rename the HDMI input to PC and I also tried DVI PC. That did not work. What's killing me is the lag.when I move my mouse around the screen it's slow unlike when I move it around the monitor.

I thank you so much.. I stayed after work for an hour trying to adjust a bunch of settings. I don't play games on it at all. It only used to look at PDF blueprints. Like I said when I had it plugged in via hdmi to display port it allows me to choose 60 hz at 3840x2160 but the clarity was really bad. I also bought a new hdmi cable tonight which I'll try tomorrow. Thanks

So if I return it what should I look for in a 4k that would produce a clear 4k pic for viewing PDF blueprints. I need something 43" and a monitor would be too much money. Thanks

The clarity is not so bad it's the lag of the mouse pointer....it's not very lagging but def not as responsive as when I move the pointer over to the monitor.

So an update. Returned the lg and got a Samsung KU 6300. Wow what difference..so good. One thing to note is that the recommended resolution is 3840x2160 which looks great. When I changed it to the 4k res the pic was worse which is weird to me. BTW it was the reverse for the LG.

Kicker...I hope when I hook up my others two monitors at work along with the Samsung there is no degradation of pic quality. That work be a graphics card issue I suppose. I do have a pretty good 4k graphics card so hopefully it can handle all three displays. I've been running my two dell 4k monitors along with a standard crappy 24" so essentially I'm swapping that out for the 4k tv.

Thanks again all for the help along the way.

Update just got to work and hooked tv up along with two other 4k monitors and it works great. Odd why the rEcommened resolution for tv is 3k and not 4k but the monitors are the same..anyway pic is great and lag is almost nil. Thanks again

That /is/ recommended resolution (native) for basically all "4K" TVs.

You clearly have no idea what you're doing and did no research whatsoever before posting here. Glad it worked out in the end for you, but all the same... Try harder next time.

It's a rude way for him to put it but he has a point. Alot of this is very basic stuff. Welcome to [H].:D

Agree he does have a point and I did a little research before and during my post. Not the way to come across to someone.

Wow dude why post at all if your gonna be so rude to the guy? Not everyone is as into this tech as most of us here and thusly haven't seen the same info covered 1000 times. So chill man. No need to act so high and mighty.

Ok so first full day in office with all 2 monitors and 1 tv going. Everything seems ok but I think my comp is reacting about slow. I was wondering if I could take the "load" of my comp graphics card and use an external one for the tv and go back to haveing the 2 4k monitors off my comp graphics card. Is that possible? If so any 4k external graphics card would work with the tv? Thanks!!!

So have another issue. After speaking with my estimating software tech he said the graphics card in my laptop (Radeon m360) isn't even a 4k card. Well the dell guy told is it was 3k/4k so now we are talking it out with him. Anyway, is there a way I could buy a external 4k graphics to run 3 4k monitors and completely abandoned the one in my laptop. Dell says the one I would need wouldn't fit in my current comp. thanks

Apparently you are trying to connect a Dell laptop to a 4K TV via an HDMI connection. The Radeon R7 3xx series video chipsets do not support displaying 4K at 60Hz through the HDMI connection. The best that you can display is 4K at 30Hz. This is why your TV seems laggy.

If you have a laptop that provides a displayport video output connection, you can convert that displayport signal to an HDMI signal with an adapter and get 60Hz at 4K. Your laptop may have a docking accessory that provides this displayport connection.

If your laptop does not have a displayport output connection, then you are unfortunately limited to 30Hz when using 4K. An external video card adapter running off of USB (either 3.0 or 3.1) does not have the bandwidth to do 4K at 60Hz, so that won't solve your problem either.
