Ugh, this has to be the worst way to get canned. I'd rather just get fired and leave the company than have to stick around and train my own replacement while everyone stared at me knowing I "stepped down."

The move is a blow for struggling Twitter, which has hired bankers to field acquisition offers but has seen a dearth of potential bidders. The company said last month it would cut 9 percent of its global workforce to keep costs down. "Mr. Bain will remain at Twitter in the coming weeks to assist with the transition of the chief operating officer role," the company said.

This is probably the worst way to get canned:

If you step down yourself, it's pretty normal and the decent thing to help train you successor.

I thought we were cutting costs here??

Bain will be replaced by Chief Financial Officer Anthony Noto, the company said, adding it would begin a search for a new CFO.

But the company has struggled to make the service appealing to a broad audience and has been unable to address problems with abuse and harassment on the platform, which unlike rival Facebook allows people to remain anonymous.

I can attest that at least 1 account on facebook is not real (cause I made it up). In fact I just assumed that a lot of people use fake facebook accounts to sign up for and comment on stuff.

Sounds like a two-weeks notice to me, not him being fired. Why else would he train his successor? Twitter is bleeding talent like a stuck pig so I'd buy that before him being fired.

Twitter has NEVER made money so I can't see how they've even stuck around as long as they have. Unless they rework the site as a (paid) way for celebrities to communicate with their followers I can't see a way they'll stick around much longer. That's honestly the only thing they're leading at right now.
