It's pretty damn impressive that these guys raised almost $2.9 million in just three days. That means that, on average, each backer pledged almost $200. I guess it's all about the stretch goals now. The trailer below has some NSFW language in it.

Click the infobox at the amount. It will reveal that they 'only' collected $683.000. The rest is 'magic' investment money from Fig itself. Brian Fargo, the director of InXile, is a board member of Fig... so yeah.

Don't get me wrong I loved Wasteland 2, and I have backed Wasteland 3, but Fig is kind of shady. Especially with the representation of the funding amounts.

I haven't played Wasteland 2 since they reportedly fixed it. Wasteland 2 ate my saves, and that always kills a game for me. I will probably be skipping this game.

Didn't finish wasteland 2, but i liked what i saw in it. Was fun, maybe needed a bit more polish.

That trailer was terrible. I hope they change the game mechanics, voice acting, and facial gestures to be less "Saturday morning cartoon". Or is that the appeal? Maybe it is just so preAlpha that the trailer was whatever they could cram together before asking for money.

i'm not with this, same as the guy above, once my game saves vanished, i lost interest.

I liked the 2nd one, at least initially, but then it got very tedious and boring doing all the little side quests and what not. But who knows, it could just be the difference between a teenager playing it and an adult with career and no time to get engrossed in a game like this anymore.

But are you telling me that one didnt make any money? or is this just the future of games, fuck all that old profit that's ours let everyone prebuy it

Time to pick up #2 next time it's on sale on Steam. Then do the same for #3 about 4-5 years from now!

Get it on GoG. You get an executable, it's like a file that you just run! No DRM at all, you just tell it to run and it does!

It's like the 90s all over again.

You do You, I like having a one-stop-shop library that auto-updates.

Just because you don't understand something doesn't mean you should be spreading misinformation. First off, being on the advisory board for a company is meaningless, as it's generally an unpaid position. They simply provide expertise and counsel in whatever field they're qualified for. Anyone who has ever started their own business knows this is extremely common for almost all companies when they are starting out; it's smart.. Second, there is nothing shady going on. In fact, they have officially collected ZERO dollars at this point. Your 'magic' money is not from Fig, but from investors who have reserved some amount of shares, which will be collected around the same time pledges are collected, which is at the end of the campaign, just like on Kickstarter or Indiegogo. Fig is simply the company collecting the money because they are the ones who applied to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to do so. There are very strict laws governing how this entire process must take place, so they need to present this information in certain ways in order to abide by the law and avoid being fined by the SEC.

Steam version is also DRM-free. You get an executable you can copy freely. And unlike the GOG version, Steam auto updates, plus workshop, trading cards, achievements etc.

Remember kids, Valve doesn't dictate whether games get the DRM switch flipped on when published to Steam. The publisher does.

The irony. At least Origin lets you disable achievement popups. Last I checked, Steam doesn't. Hopefully they rip that off from Origin as it has been sorely needed.

I didn't realise Steam provided that, that's really good news since GoG has a tendency to be a couple of dollars more than Steam.

I think GoG has an update thing now as well. Don't quote me on that though.

My issue with Steam is you never know when this is the case. Nowhere on the Steam page for Wasteland 2 does it mention DRM free. With GOG I know that is the product I will be getting. Like it has been said though, to each their own.

I never played the games but from this video it looks terrible so far and really doesn't make much sense how the gameplay went down? Is this turn based or wha??

If it is like all the other wastelands, yes it is turn based once combat starts. It's an isometric RPG the rest of the time.

Thankfully I never ran into any save issues in the 2nd one. Some of the later areas I had several bugs but rest of the game was great so I wasn't too annoyed. The director's cut of it is out now and has fixed a lot of issues and added some new content. If you like the genre I would say it is worth a revisit.

To each their own. I really liked Wasteland 2. Fallout 1 and 2 it wasn't, but it's the closest thing i have played in a long time. I have pledged on WL3 because i WANT more games based on this formula. I have always liked isometric turn based combat, it is almost always more tactical than real time, because you have to THINK about the turn, not just click around like a spastic monkey (no offense to people who LIKE to play that way, i just refer a more thoughtful approach).

That and i really like post apocalyptical stories, so this is right in my wheelhouse.

Did WL2 have issues, yes it did. It really could have used more polish, and did eventually receive it, as inxile continued to work on it well after release. Mostly on the new areas added as "stretch goals." They simply did not receive enough play testing to find all of the bugs. But WL3 is based off of the same game engine, and the people working on it will have gotten better at it, not worse, so i have high hopes.

He's part of the "advisory board", yes. But the whole point of it is that it's made up of all execs from the video game industry so they can vet projects before they take them on.

How so? They're pretty transparent with how their system works. Crowdfunding is only part of how they do business.

Yep, all this.

2019 is a long time

I have about 2 hours invested in Wasteland 2 wasn't ba big fan of the turn based combat just too slow and tedious boring.
I'm sure it's a good game once you get into it.
