Ok, here is what I am looking for.

A non rack-mount 12 3.5 bay case, I don't care about board size, just a long as it can hold most a RAID card and a 10GigE adapter.

I want it affordable and something that I may be able to custom 3D print a front for. I really like the Fractal Design's NAS stuff, but you only have a 4 or an 8 bay option.

Also, no windows, as plain of a case as possible. Hotswap may be considered but I don't know.

Any hints?

$140 for case + (3) $80 Icydock 5-in-3 hot swaps = $380.

Or you could save about $80 and use the cheap aluminum HDD holders that you can mount in the 5.25" bays.

Also, you never specified any form of budget. Affordable to you might be different than someone else.

That is true but around 200-300 max, otherwise I will do a protocase and have exactly what I want. I also want as few moving and extra components as possible.

I recall someone using this case and doubling up on the drive rack. They contacted Lian Li and bought another drive cage set. Now that's a lot of drives. Personally I'm using a Lian Li v2000 with two EX34 cages for 20 drives.

LOL... I use the older Protocase 45 drive solutions at our offices & datacenters, along with the families houses. This is just a different application than what we normally use.

I did something similar with my Rocketfish "Lian-Li" years ago.

I stacked some of the 3 drive holders with a total of 9 drives inside, then put in (2) 5-in-3 hot swaps in the front for a total of 19 drive capacity. I could add another stacked on top of the one toward the rear to bring it to 22 drives. I don't use the case at the moment though. At one point in time I had 3 of those Rocketfish cases because I found them on clearance at Best Buy for $49.99 :p
