So it's time for me to buy a new 24-port switch for home. My current one is an old Cisco 3560G PoE switch. It's served me well for 5 years.
I'll probably get another 802.3af PoE switch, but there is also the option of getting a 802.at PoE+ (~30W) instead. Besides being more expensive though, they may consume more power (even when PoE is not being used) and generally have even louder fans to help keep it cool. The main question is, what's it for? I have a couple PoE phones now and some PoE AXIS cameras, but all of them fall under the original <15.4W power envelope. I'm not sure what I'll be using in 5+ years, but so far I can't find anything that requires the higher PoE+ power except PTZ cameras.
Is there anything out there except for video cameras that you suspect may need the higher power anytime soon? Even my current Ruckus 802.11ac access point only requires standard PoE power.
