Supermicro X9SRI (LGA 2011) for $125 at Ebay - DEAL DEAD

Got it working, my case was shorting it out. Had to go back and correct the standoffs so totally my fault. Just curious is any one replacing the loud HSF that came with it? if so which one

Nice! I will probably replace the HSF sooner than later but mine is really quiet under my conditions so far. Of course, I'm just installing my VMs and setting stuff up, but it might be okay. Doesn't even get very loud when I benchmark and show 100% utilization. Don't get me wrong, the fan is CRAZY loud at 100% but it hasn't needed to spin up much. I do also have it in a Fractal Design Define XL with all the sound deadening so I'm sure that helps a ton.

Best part is running multiple VMs, doing a bunch of stuff at once, etc. and seeing really low CPU utilization, RAM isn't even close to used up, etc. First time I've had a truly overkill server (for my needs). I ended up getting the Mobo, E5-2665, 16GB DDR3, 256GB SSD and a new PSU for under $250 including tax. Loving this deal - THANKS PUTUTU!

Since the socket is standardized, shouldn't you be able to use any cooler compatible with lga2011?

I haven't checked too much into it but I think I remember something about these boards needing a narrower than normal HSF. Not sure if that's accurate or not, though.

Good to know, will check on that before getting a new one. Silly question, but does this board have onboard audio?

Some boards use the narrow 2011 socket, but this isn't one of them. Any heatsink should fit so long as it supports the square 2011 socket.

Awesome, thanks for the clarification. In that case I think I'm going to order a new HSF now since this thing does start cranking when my media server needs to start transcoding :).

How did you find out it was shorting out? What made you guess that?

Was just a guess and after Googling it (no vid,no beeps), i found some posts about pulling the motherboard out and testing. when I pulled the mobo out of case and tried it it booted right up.
