Ahead of the August 5th launch of DOOM's first DLC, Bethesda has released Update #2 for DOOM that, in addition to fixes and optimizations, features two new multiplayer modes, Sector and Exodus. For those of you interested, DOOM Update #2 release notes can be found here.

The free update kicks off with two new multiplayer modes, Sector and Exodus. Sector is a capture and hold mode while Exodus brings capture the flag to DOOM. We're also adding Hell modules and environments to DOOM SnapMap, plus new objects like Launch Pads, and last but not least, the campaign weapon wheel comes to SnapMap! And of course, the update will include tons of optimizations and improvements. Look for full release notes when the patch goes live tomorrow. Unto the Evil, DOOM's first DLC, launches August 5! We're thrilled to announce that our first premium multiplayer DLC will launch on August 5.

Holy shit, 13GB!

When did game updates get that yuge? I'm ready to jump into those new game modes already, this game just gets better and better!

That fing sucks! Sorry my language but I just updated to the vulcan patch, and now it won't let me play doom offline steam mode which I was OK with but I can't deal with 13gb of download for a patch, I only get 30 a month. Bah, there goes another 2 weeks without doom while I wait for a friend to download it for me and put it on a hd...

I got Steam auto-updates enabled and even played multiplayer last night. 13gb is definitely the size of this one update.

I still haven't been able to jump in and play since Steam updates go at 2.5mb/s on my connection but it basically kills my internet connection for everything else so I haven't been downloading it.

I've given up on Doom. I just can't manage the enemies with shields.

I've found that the best way to try to take them out is to try to flank them (i.e., hit them from behind if you can move fast enough). Also, if you take some cover and are a bit patient, from time to time and opening becomes available for you to do some damage.

Unrelated, I was impressed (not in a good way) at the size of this update. I'm all for new features, but wow. A 50 GB game is now 62 GB. Feels like lots of uncompressed data...

I just can't manage the game as it progresses. I'm an old fart and was hoping it would be a tic easier to play. I'm just not into the running around the whole game thing.

There are a couple of other things: in the original Doom you could start any level with just the pistol and make a go of it but you can't do that now, and that in the original Doom you could set the monsters on each other and it's very difficult to do that now. Further, in many original Doom levels you could look into the area and see all the monsters waiting for you so you could intelligently plan ahead but now they just teleport in.

You sir could use a trainer! - Something I'm not opposed to if I'm beyond frustrated and at the point of uninstalling a damn game.

Doom Trainer
(May not be updated to latest game version yet)

Also keep in mind - Always use Trainers in Offline mode while playing a game with VAC.
Just launch Steam in Offline mode and your all good

Here's the options you can toggle. Usually stay away from Inf Health unless its really that bad.
  1. Inf.Health
  2. Inf.Ammo
  3. No Reload
  4. Inf.Armor
  5. Inf.Grenades
  6. Instant Cooldown
  7. Inf.Weapon Points

Looking fwd to playing it myself when a good deal comes around!

This I miss. I like to be more methodical than just running around. In this Doom you can't stand still. Hate that.

"Double XP Weekend"? Don't tell me I have to buy a case of Mountain Dew for this...

Sorry, that kind of talk just makes the game sound like shit. (I only have the demo)
"Alright kids, lets get some XP and do whatever the hell we're supposed to do with it.. Buy an upgraded weapon or something and then call some lesser person a newb!!!"

Honestly, I don't know. <--- Newb

Played the first demo and was unimpressed. Found it lacking in graphic quality and interest. Could be me just getting older and not enjoying this game type much.

Explosive shot to the side and just behind will knock them about, then flank and finish them off.

I'm shuffling stuff around off the SSD to fit this porky game. Most for MP stuff I won't use... wish there was an SP/MP install toggle. I buy doom for SP like many. Few thousand playing MP out of 60-70k playing in total supports that point of view beyond just an opinion.

Was just pissed off that 12gb was forced upon me (crap internet) with no way to use offline mode unless I'd already done so.. Three days later I'm just about to be back up and running again after downloading offsite. Great because I'm sick and have time to play doom..

I am one of the biggest fans of this game, and Ive never played one round of multiplayer. The campaign is worth the price of admission three times over.
