Looking to split an internal usb 2.0 header for two devices. All I can find is an extremely overpriced cable from Modmymods or stuff from China that will take forever and a day to get here. I'm looking to go Z170 M-ITX and all the boards only have one usb 2.0 header and I need 2 for a Hue+ and Corsair Link connection.

wait, do you just want to convert 2.54mm 9 pin usb internal connector to 2x USB type A female? if so i can make you one

I need to turn an internal motherboards male usb 2.0 into dual so I can utilize the 2 x usb 2.0 devices (hue+ and Corsair Link). My current P8Z77-I Deluxe has 2 x usb 2.0 male headers but new Z170 ITX boards only have 1 header.

in other word u want to multiple one internal 2x USB 2.0 9 pin port to "TWO" of same internal 2x USB 2.0 9 pin pots?

if so, that is not bad, i need to find a 4x usb hub and convert the hub input to pin header (to allow mounting to internal port) and merge all 4 USB female A ports to 2x 9 pin 2.5mm internal usb connector

do i conceptualize it correctly?

other solutions is use the internal USB 3.0 port -> USB 2.0 convertor

scgt1, if you have any of those old USB PCI brackets you can just unscrew the bracket and keep the cabling and ports inside your case. I use them on my embedded computers that run off of USB flash drives. I'm not sure I have any not in use at the moment though.

Yes so the one port can do what it's capable of and control two usb 2.0 devices since these boards only have one usb 2.0 port.

I don't know what Gigabyte was talking about since they have been doing this from internal to external for a very very very long time. I just dug these out of my bin:

So what the heck can be the difference in the first picture over the second to where "it doesn't work like that" or what ever the rep told me. I was like um ok if you say so.

Hopped back on the Gigabyte support on Newegg again since I got disconnected earlier and went at this again.

Cannot split the USB like that. To get more USB ports, you would need a USB hub.

Visitor said: single internal ports have been getting split for years with these https://hardforum.com/data/attachments/5/5677-9423e240aa34e925b645095e02a2b19d.jpg

Visitor said: how would a splitter for internal hubs not work?

Gigabyte said: Each USB port requires 4 wires, that bracket is for two USB2.0/1.1 ports.

Gigabyte said: It is not being "Split".

Search for "Internal USB 2.0 hub". I would just send you a link but Newegg chat does not allow us to link to other websites other than Newegg or ours.Gigabyte said: Or search, "NZXT IU01". That is the model.

If you use a split it like that can use one side at a time. If plug in more, will be like plugging two USB devices into the same port the you run the risk of damaging the USB port and/or the USB device.

Yep I know I am right, do you want me to commission an internal hub spliter for u?

U can't split signal, the splicing wires does not allows you add additional usb devices, you need hub/ multiplexor

What would we be looking at? LOL

I showed him this one also which is $7.73 shipped on ebay and $7.59 on Aliexpress but we are talking up to 20 days for delivery from China:

He mentioned how the NZXT would be better because it has 2 pin power lead that leads to a molex connector to provide extra power to the connected devices. I'm not sure if I would need the extra power. The NZXT hub has 3 internal male connectors and 2 actual usb ports you can plug thumb drives in. That is probably why there is a power cable for it. The price is much higher also for the extra 3 connectors I wouldn't use. I know you mentioned another option was the usb 3.0 port and using an adapter to 2.0 but I want the 3.0 for my front case I/O as I do plug devices into it including my external burner when I need to. What would I be looking at? I would need a pretty good sized lead (Like in the picture above) from the board to the actual hub so I could hide the thing behind the mobo tray. I'm really not up on the exposed colored wires at least on the end that connects to the mobo. I would probably remove the pins from the connector and dig out my MDPC-X sleeving.
