The first thing to cross my mind when I read this story was "holy crap, Wikileaks is still around?" I guess the next thing we'll hear is Wikileaks complaining about being blocked in a country where they just leaked thousands of ruling party emails.

Turkey has blocked access to the WikiLeaks website, the telecoms watchdog said on Wednesday, hours after it leaked thousands of ruling party emails just as Ankara grapples with the aftermath of a failed military coup. Around 50,000 soldiers, police, judges and teachers have been suspended or detained since the attempted coup on the weekend, and Turkey's Western allies have expressed concern over the crackdown's reach.

Turkey is becoming a dictatorial repressive state in no time flat... sanctioned by the west, so HEY! its all GOOD!

As a member of NATO, they ARE the West. The US was basing attacks on ISIS from Turkey. Now the attempted coup and its aftereffects have put a hold on those flights.

How would you like to proceed? An invasion of one of your allies in the Middle East, perhaps? Awkward.

I'm wondering when Turkey becomes more of a liability than an asset. They're certainly moving in that direction in a hurry. I sure hope we're taking appropriate measures in light of what's been going on there, and where things appear to be headed.

Just curious if you actually know these things as fact or do you think you know?

Just a tip: I actually know whats going on over there and you're not as correct as you think you are.

I misread the title to mean that a turkey (the bird) had somehow blocked access to Wikileaks. Man, that was a strange image.

The situation in Turkey right now is pretty uncertain, but it's really suspicious that they're blocking Wikileaks. They're in serious risk of a massive attack of the Streisand Effect. I also didn't realize that Wikileaks was still a thing, I figured with Assange evading arrest they were basically shut down.

I'm pretty sure the west didn't sanction this. I think we'd have been happier with a successful coup, given the direction they've been going this past couple years.

Pretty much, Turkey is being rapidly de-secularized.. If I am understanding things correctly anyway.

Anyone have a summary of the email leak details? They had others in March and May so it may be more of a "its in the news" and less of an actual impact.

All this talk of Turkey is making me Hungary!

I was Russian to work when Iran to Iraq because I was Hungary for some Turkey, but they didn't have any. So I got some Chile instead. Oman was it good! I got some Togo for later. When the waiter Chad brought me my Czech, I tipped him a Qatar and told him to have a good day, "Yemen" he says to me.

Winner!

No, flights were temporarily suspended but they have resumed.

Fake ass coup orchestrated by erdoggin..

When precision bombs from f16s can only hit cars outside, and helicopter gunships only hit bare ground, you know something is bullshit. Not to mention millitary with main battle tanks, surrendering to civillian police.. haha yeah right. Movie stuff. Only erdoggin gains from this, him and his ISIS buddies.

Word has it that the majority of the soldiers thought it was a training exercise. Could have something to do with it?

Just like 9/11, 7/7, Boston etc etc yes it's commonplace to have drills echoing a real event at the same time. Maximum confusion and compartmentalisation is the name of the game.

9/11 has me a little curious with the melted steel, but I'm not familiar with the "drills" that you say were happening at the same time.

Its too bad Turkey has such a strategic location, they are terrible allies otherwise.

Oh yeah? Try having them as your neighbours.

I am unsure which one is worse: Russia or Turkey.

The country is busted and the split is going to be bloody. It's amazing how a bunch of crazies can ruin a country in lest than a decade without an actual war

Sorry, I didn't realize that flights against ISIS had resumed. It's been a busy week in the news.

The first thing I thought was "How the hell can a turkey restrict access to something? It doesn't even have arms.....and it should stay in the oven!"

Turkey is picking a fight with Russia trying to pull all of NATO into a war with Russia. Since Russia is pounding ISIS, what they are doing would end up taking the Russian heat off ISIS at our expense. Regardless, they are not our friend and shouldn't even be a NATO member.

So your source is better than the NYT? Not like some fringe website.

Considering I'm retired AF (fighter jet mechanic no less) who knows people all over the world, including people currently on the base in question, yeah, I'd say I know a bit more than you or the NYT.

Let's test that theory:

What is the airspeed of an unladen swallow?

I'm just awaiting the return of the Ottoman Empire. Fuck this "Turkey" shit.

African or European swallow?

Indeed, they are just trying to rebuild the mighty Ottoman Empire (and Dynasty).

Turkey is slouching towards sharia. Who did Obama back? Erdogan. Are we really surprised since...
Egypt? Obama backed the Muslim Brotherhood.
Iran? Obama back the mullahs and made a nuclear deal with them granting $150 Billion in unfrozen assets and a green light to developing nuclear weapons.
You tell me where the community activist's loyalties lie.

I'm not a fan of Erdogan by a long shot, and he's in Putin mode atm, considering what he's doing in Turkey and walking a fine line as far as where Turkey was even 30 years ago.

It is still technically a Democratic Republic, we'll see. He is pushing it to the edge there.

A lot of your Obama hate sounds pretty ignorant.

Maybe a turkey could land on their transmission equipment, and get fried :)
