Hamster Powered Drawing Machine Draws Hamsters

Is this machine the ultimate hamster selfie maker or just animal cruelty? Maybe a little of both? Who comes up with this stuff?

I honestly thought it was pretty cool. My friend works at a robotics lab at highly technical North East college, and gave me a bunch of their surplus equipment that they were going to throw away. Most of it was vacuum and semiconductor equipment, but one of the coolest things in there was a large scale tranlation tool. I don't know the official name of it, but you would attach two pencils to it, configure your settings, and draw the picture. It would duplicate the drawing at a set coordinate and you could scale it +-X depending on how big or small you wanted the second drawing to come out. It is the only thing from the bundle of equipment I actually kept.
